@Ravidrath: From what I can remember of the old site (this game has been in development for a while now) and of Alex's art on his website, there are 8 characters.
@DukeTogo: The ignorant view nations through the lenses of popular culture and stereotypes derived from it, but that doesn't make the generalizations true.
@Splotch Eleven: ...how many of us have shaken our baby sons to death, or stuck and killed a pedestrian when driving home from a bar, or killed someone at all, let alone over a game of something as inane as Farmville?
You're right about one thing, though. There is always more to stories like this one. That doesn't justify her actions.
@Stephen Totilo: You're right that those two options don't capture the essence of what you're trying to relay. However, I do still feel that "Why should I care?" seems harsh. I also feel that since you outline what the ideal player is in the previous paragraph, this title is a little redundant or unnecessary. Those who identify with the characteristics outlined will automatically care, while those who don't will switch off.
You're already implying that you will segue into why they should care, so maybe you didn't even need that at all, and some slight tweaking of the intro to the next paragraph would help smooth the transition. By eliminating the "Do you want to play a new game that has new characters?" sentence, the two paragraphs flow quite nicely together.
Additionally, later in the article, you outline why one should or should not buy the game. Those people who are not that interested in the first place will likely scroll to that section and skip the rest of the article, meaning those who don't care because they don't identify with the Ideal Player laid out at the beginning.
Ultimately, this is just my opinion as a loyal reader, and I have no real control over how you chose to run these reviews .
Having said that, I honestly enjoy the new format. Sure it has some bugs, but I'm sure you guys are doing some QA and will patch them soon enough :)
@FeelinRandy: I agree. Wording that's less harsh but still gets the point across would be ideal: "Why should I get this game?" works, or "What's this game got to offer?". Something along those lines.
@comtar: Good point, but what was that about the Viet Cong? They weren't "history", they only went away when North and South Vietnam united as a communist country in the mid '70s.
I do agree with most of what you've said, though. EA shouldn't have used the name "Taliban" from day one. Someone there should have known that it would offend people, since Afghanistan is still an active combat zone.
