While I'm here, I might as well write some closing words...
As one of the last members of the older guard of commenters, the ones that frequented the site before the infamous layout change, I just want to say that I had one hell of a time discussing things with the people here. I think I pissed people off just as much as I endeared myself to them, and hey, I said plenty of stupid shit in the past, but in some ways I grew up through this community.
Of course, many of the amazing people that made the comments what they were are now gone. I persisted because, hey, it's hard to break old habits, and I held out the hope that at some point in the future, the commenters would come back, the writing would return to its quality format, and we would have a grand old time again.
Unfortunately, that dream turned out to be formed in misplaced optimism. The Kotaku many of us knew and loved has been dead for years, and it's taken me this long to figure that out.
Well, it's been a pleasure. I'll miss you, TruthTellah, Kovitlac... hell, I'll even miss you, KingKellogg, you silly rascal. I'll be in a better place, and maybe some day you guys will also feel the need to head out. Until then, cheers to all.
Even you, Tim Rogers. Especially you two, Kirk Hamilton and Stephen Totilo.
Well, no shit. This has always been and always will be common sense. In fact, that's the way Jaffe has viewed it for a very long time, and you would have recognized that, had you done some RESEARCH before writing a reactionary, lunk-headed article chasing for hits.
So in the end, all this boiled down to was upsetting a brilliant creator in the pursuit of lining your wallet with cash generated from hits. Some integrity right there. In fact, your writing was dangerously close to libel, attacking his character based on a joke. Keep this up and you'll find yourself on the receiving end of several lawsuits.
How dumb, how naive, how lunk-headed do you have to be to somehow mistake this person's manner of speech? It's not like Jaffe is some code monkey. He makes headlines every time he opens his mouth because people care about what he says, because he's honest, and 9/10, he's incredibly respectful!
For someone to take this and turn it into an article... either you haven't been following games for even a year, or you're really, really stupid. Either way, is there a filter that hides anything Kate Cox writes?
Two days ago, my 360 went kaput on me. Well, not entirely dead, but dead enough to make me realize that I had to trade it in before I wouldn't be able to sell it in at all. So, I packed up the console and my 30-40 games for the system... and traded them all in for an Uncharted 3 PS3 bundle and many games worth of in-store credit.
Now, why did I do this? Well, as much as I loved my 360 games, it was a pain to rely on a Live subscription just to use Netflix and play my games. Also, I had played through all of them, and was at a point where I felt like I really wouldn't play them ever again, given the chance.
As for getting a PS3... well, several years back, I had given my original PS3 to my brother, and I kind of missed the platform. I had missed the third iteration of Uncharted, the ability to watch Blu-Ray movies, and more urgently, Twisted Metal was just around the corner.
Am I insane? Possibly, but for now, I'm not regretting the decision at all, and I have something I need to ask of you...
Are there any games within the 2010-2012 time period that I should check out, since I was without a PS3 around then?
See, right there you came to the true issue, but you completely missed the boat by a long shot (though I'm frankly amazed you came to any salient point at all). Online Passes aren't the true issue here. It's the publisher/developer relationship that's the issue! Why should men like Bobby Kotick get rich off the Call of Duty team? The Call of Duty team are the ones that make the game, and the ones that work hard at it.
But no, you turned this into a rant about Online Passes. You more than missed the boat; you missed the cruise liner.
Have a good day.
You people and your supposed victimization. News flash; Christians aren't the ones that are constantly assaulted.
