<![CDATA[Comments from Draig]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Draig]]> <![CDATA[Draig commented on Sporelebrity Contest Kicks Off]]> I probably would have voted for Brian's creature anyway, but I genuinely think it is one of the best ones there so is extra worthy of the votes!

On a side note, I felt mildly disappointed by Stan Lee's creation. I realise he's not an artist but I sort of expected more. Whilst on the subject of 'feelings' I was pleasantly surprised by Masi Oka's creation!

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Codemasters Co-Founders Get Queenly Honors]]> @francoamerica:

It's like a knighthood but not quite!
Peter Molyneux received an OBE (Officer) in 2004, which is one below Commander. Only the two highest ranks of the Order of the British Empire warrant a knighthood (of which officer and commander are neither).
I'm not really sure why exactly at this time they would have received it, perhaps there is a limited number given out per year and some sort of waiting list?

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Hideo Kojima At NYC's Metal Gear Solid 4 Midnight Launch]]> Leigh, your meeting with Kojima reminds me exactly of the time I met David Attenborough at a 'Life in Cold Blood' book signing. Well, at least the star-struck inane babbling part.

Actualy, I can't wait to see how my project on the crayfish immune system effects gaming in the future.
Realistic river ecosystems in GTA V. It's gonna be big.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Conan O'Brien Shows "Toned Down" GTA IV]]> @cordsie: Hilarious post.
I haven't played it yet but have considered that the relatively realistic euphoria engine may induce some form of guilt when running down pedestrians.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Aussie University *Really* Loves Portal]]> @Rexter: I knew spell checking 'Aperture' was a mistake. Sorry for bad timing.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Aussie University *Really* Loves Portal]]> @UnkleBuck: It's not so much the word 'portal' as it is the use of the Aperture Science logo.

Anyway, the whole thing is pretty cool!

<![CDATA[Draig commented on MRIs Get to the Bottom of Wiiitis]]> Zoology should really have three O's- but it doesn't.
I see no reason then, why 'Wiiitis' can't fall in line with words like zoology.

Apart from the comedic value, which is huge.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Weekends Were Made for Nepotism]]> It will be returned in fair time, perhaps within the next week. However, the DVD drive won't work so you'll have to send it back to Microsoft and wait at least another month.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on New Cake Screens Leaked]]> I'm certainly going to pre-heat my oven for this as soon as the temperature specs are announced.

]]>

If so, I doubt it perfected the sound of snow melting.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Rumor: First Look At Sonic Unleashed]]> Check Sonic out, dodging that box!

I wonder, if Sonic actually hit the box, would it splinter realistically? Would stormtroopers then cling to the box as they- ah different game now.

I guess what I'm trying to ask here is…does Sonic ever use a lightsabre?

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on No Snaking For Mario Kart Wii]]> I see the removal of snaking as a bad thing and I certainly don't consider it anywhere near something like cheating.

It requires a fair deal of skill to master snaking, not that I was ever particularly amazing at it. For example, in Double Dash, on the Dino-dino Jungle track, there is a long, *thin* platform shortcut that is incredibly difficult to get across without falling off. If you go over it normally, you get a few boosts. However, the shortcut was obviously design for you to snake over as you gain a far greater benefit from doing this, than if you were to go over it normally. It's also incredibly hard to do this successfully, so there are benefits and costs to the shortcut making it perfectly fair.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on On Ghosts, And How they Creep Me Out]]> Please stop posting ghost stories. It's having detrimental consequences- in particular, to me.

For example, I came very close to an emergency forced underwear change after my own Wellington boot was knocked over by my bedroom door as I opened it to walk in.

Now that my heart rate has paced itself once again, I can't stop asking myself this one question: Why is there a Wellington boot anywhere near my door anyway?

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Week in Games: Devil May Cry 4 Edition]]> DMC4...:'(
I'm still without my 360 after its sudden departure half way through Mass Effect, over a month ago. Imagine my glee when I received my newly repaired 360 on Monday, with fully working motherboard, ready to finish Mass Effect- only to find that the disc drive *will not open*. It looks like they sorted the motherboard and simply forgot to reconnect the DVD drive power after repairs.
Imagine my further glee (and this is the salt on the wound, people) when I was told I was entitled to a *free game* as a result, selecting 'Viva Piñata' as my choice from the [rather limited] list- only to find that, instead, the game's horribly disfigured progeny, 'Viva Piñata: Party Animals' was sent in the post.

My broken 360 now waits packaged (using old plastic bags) in a box that says 'Back Bacon' on it. So no, I will not be enjoying the thrills of demon [or Piñata] slaying any time soon.

Rant over. Sympathy: Enabled.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Work and Play: A Peek Inside the Lives of Gaming's Greatest Readers]]> I really love that Super Nintendo sign in Sam's photo. Also loving the background in Duophonix's picture- super cool.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Satire For the Weekend: Harpooned]]> @seiryuu: @seiryuu: I find it hard to take the ICR website seriously. 'Harpooned' makes statements between stages along the lines of; 'Whale numbers in this region appear to be depleted, we need to kill more whales to discover the cause of this.' This is obviously a tongue-in-cheek statement, as the main post here states about the game's nature. However, the 'sampling' of whales by the ICR is exactly this.
It's odd that they would attempt to justify their sampling by arguing that whales deplete fish stocks, when actually the impact of human fishing activities (i.e. the Japanese people who rely on them) far outweighs the impact of whales. Particularly baleen species (including minke whales) which predate primarily on zooplankton such as krill- not fish.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Satire For the Weekend: Harpooned]]> @d1sco_d3ath: Good points. However, it stands to reason that the whales are not being sustainably harvested, despite the limits being put in place. In the not too distant future they could all be gone. What will the fishermen and their families do then?

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Darth Vader, Yoda Join The Cast of Soulcalibur IV]]> @Kai_: Lol, I love this reaction, stands in stark contrast to so many other posts.
I was quite pleased to see this myself, but I'm not exactly a die hard Soul Calibur fan.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on D is for Digital Recommends More Educational Games]]> I'm not saying we need more WW2 shooters here, but when I was a few years younger I learnt a heck of a lot from games like BF1942 and CoD. I was even inspired to read books about stuff as a direct result. Honest to God, books.

Educational games don't always have to be bad games.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Stargate Worlds Debut Teaser]]> It's a shame that development of Stargate: Source was halted, it had great potential. Even the Stargate FPS could have been good, if it was pulled off right.
Stargate has potential as an MMO, but I'm just disappointed they couldn't have made it into a conventional RPG (i.e. offline). Stargate would fit incredibly well into the BioWare formula for RPGs. There were moments in Mass Effect were it really did feel like an episode of Stargate, such as exploring uncharted planets for that 'strange transmission'.
I feel now that MMOs are a drain on life, I like to be able to disconnect from a game when it's off and have the ability to complete it. The fact that Stargate: Worlds is an MMO alienates me straight away even though I'd really like to try it for the sake of Stargate.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Week in Games: The First Crop Edition]]> I sure hope DDR: Disney Channel is an improvement on the hugely disappointing Disney's High School Musical: Sing It.

Or I will be peeved.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on Even The Queen Plays the Wii]]> Whilst trying to think of a humorous music genre for the Queen to be into, several did pop to mind. At first I took her for a bit of a Country & Western fan. Then I realised she wouldn't be out of place with a coupe of glow sticks and a strobe light- that's when it hit me.

The Queen's #1 most played song on her iPod:
What Hurts the Most- Cascada

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on What Are You Playing This Weekend?]]> Apparantly not Mass Effect as my 360 finaly red ringed a few days ago.
Instead, I'll be playing with the ultimate games consol- my imagination...

Oh God I miss Mass Effect.

<![CDATA[Draig commented on What Are You Looking Forward To In 2008?]]> Graduating! Oh wait, I'm not looking forward to that at all (not that it will happen if Mass Effect has anything to say about it)...
Well in that case, Smash Bros Brawl! All I need is a Wii. I'm going to pretend they will be easy to obtain in 2008, as easy to come across as cake references in Portal. Oh yes.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Reader's Choice Winners]]> This is certainly a better result than in the episode of Newsround I watched not long ago, where children chose The Golden Compass for the PS3 over Galaxy.

To be honest though, I haven't played either- so maybe they were right..?

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Another Brilliant Johnny Lee Wii Vid]]> @TaMs: Agreed, he could make shed loads. Instead he seems to have done the opposite by posting a how-to guide on the internet. Unless he actually has patented it and I'm just too lazy to find out.
Imagine if this guy appeared on something like Dragon's Den with this idea, he'd literally have the dragons fighting over him to get an investment.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on British Sales Charts Return To Normal]]> EA is sponsoring 'Sci-Fi on Sky'. As such every break between programmes like Stargate, Star Trek, Buffy, Angel etc have two adverts concerning EA games such as MoH and Skate. If, like me, you became addicted to Stargate over the summer, you'd have seen an Airbourn advert hundreds of times.

]]>
<![CDATA[Draig commented on Happy Birthday, Dreamcast!]]> I'll never forget my days of playing Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Shenmue. Phantasty Star Online was the first game to physically make me vomit from overplaying. Surely a milestone in any gamer's life. It feels quite humbling to know that the consol was so great my body felt the need to express it in the only way it knew how, apart from speech.
