<![CDATA[Comments from Dir_en_grey]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Dir_en_grey]]> <![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Americans Brag, PS3 No Letdown, Kotaku is Wrong]]> @Astrofox:
I'm glad somebody else noticed. But this is not the first time Bash used selective quotes and selective word use on translation to support his own point
so he can have an article that generates confusion and more hits. "Misleading titles" and "Selective quotes" is probably some common journalism practice (though should be unacceptable), like Kojima said in the show people do this all the time. But I think there's just something immoral about it when people can't even have a chance to double check or cross reference you simply because they rely on you as their only source of translation. And it's sad that are people like Majikengo who will just blindly trust/worship it.

@ManjiKengo:
Your whole basis on people's understanding of language and culture is still based on if the person is in that country or not... guess you totally missed what y2kenjination was trying to say.

I wish you could understand Japanese, then you can listen to the radio interview link, then you'll (probably) get it.

This is not some Japanese Culture Knowledge showdown. Kojima's whole point of the interview was to point out and gave examples of how sites and translators from many different countries, will take an original article or interview, and interpret/translate that with their own "flairs" and views added, and some other sites will take that and AGAIN add their own twist to it so the article would get more reads, which in result totally changes what the original speaker was trying to convey (like how some Kotaku posts that pulls articles from other sites and add their own flamebait spin for the article).
Kojima just simply wants people to quit fucking around with his words and change it into something else.

But here you have Bash again leaving out and not translate many statements Kojima made to support his claim, twisted some translation so Kojima sounds like he's bashing Americans by saying Americans "brag", so Bash can add a title like "Hideo Kojima: Americans Brag" so people would get pissed and click on the article; basically doing what Kojima is saying in this radio interview that he doesn't want people to do.

よう言わん is Kansai slang for "I just can't say that", not "brag". Quoting "brag" is Bashcraft's interpretation of what Kojima said, but Kojima just didn't say "Americans Brag". Even if that's the interpretation, Kojima said it once, Bash chooses to leave it in the article and use it as the title of this post, as opposed to many statements Kojima said which supports Kojima's point of how people twist the meanings of what he said, which are simply left out or got sloppy translations. (I understand it's a 12 min interview, and some stuff can be left out, but common, this is being TOO selective.)

This is even worse if this is done intentionally. This happened in that 360 Ikaruga blog post a while back, I dunno Bash or Muu translated (or the lack of) that though...
The fact that he is in Japan means that there will be people like you who worship him, and anybody who says otherwise will just be "some kid who watches anime and studied japanese culture for 2 years". Heh, the thing is that random anime kid can possibly know more because he's actually trying to embrace the culture... Or he could just read articles from Kotaku and believe everything he reads, which anime kid are you?

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Americans Brag, PS3 No Letdown, Kotaku is Wrong]]> @ManjiKengo: @Billkwando: @y2kenjination:
I support what y2kenjination said. From reading Bashcraft's past posts, his views are very "from an American's point of view looking at Japan". Sometimes to the point I will wonder "why the hell wouldn't he understand that if he lives there?" and would piss me off because people like you guys think he should be the "Know It All" of Japan and follows everything that Bash says, it just creates more possibilities of that unnecessary cultural misunderstanding gap even wider.

I dunno if he does it on purpose or not, stuff like misleading titles and one sided cultural information or simply leaving stuff out of his article, usually generate many comments because people get angry that "somebody's wrong".

I just came to the conclusion maybe Bash is trying to get more hits in his posts? And number of hits and comments = $$$ as a Kotaku editor? I dunno. Well he's got a wife and kid to feed, and maybe journalism integrity is not needed since this is a blog site as I came to understand; Either way, from following Bash for a while trying to get Japanese gaming info, reading what he has to say Bash's views are totally "American". There's nothing wrong with it, but he's not some Japanese guru either, even when he has a Japanese wife and kids.

You can live in another country all you want, but you can also choose not to adapt to the way they think or act. Even if you choose to adapt to how other people think and act, it's pretty hard when your own culture has formed your own personality and hardwired into your body. I think even acknowledging there's another culture and other ways to do things is hard enough for most people.

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Suikoden Coming To PlayStation Store]]> Why are they so slow on PS1 games? It's not like PS3 has enough games, adding PS1 games could definitely push sales of PS3.

The Japanese store's got shit loads of PS1 games...
I don't get why Sony don't make PSN a point system like 360 so you can buy games from stores from different country. Or simply unlock that "Country" selectability when entering your credit card billing info...
PSN point card being country locked is the stupidest thing btw...

There are classic fighting games, shooting games or music games that there has no language barrier.
It's good that atleast SOMETHINGS are coming out, but the US PSN lineup for PS1 totally sux.

Well, it's not supposed to be trial and error since you were supposed to figure out where to go by figuring out the map through what the dead sees.

@J.A.:
You can in part 2 =)
There's a blind character and you sight-jack a dog while controlling your character. All the people that suck at video games were probably gonna bitch about that more so they never released part 2 in states?

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Bonus Echocrome Levels Up For A Limited Time Only]]> Hardest user generated level so far I've played was titled "Book" by a Japanese User. 2 squares joined to form a L, mirrored side by side.... Anybody played this one? How the hell are you supposed to pass this?

This is why I wish they come out with a patch where we can save these levels. Next time I'm gonna jot down their ID and just mail them to ask for the levels, if I run into a good one.

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Rocketmen: It Came From Uranus]]> Did anybody actually like this game???
Only played the demo but it was the worst game I've ever played in my life, no joke either.
This is also the first game I felt RAGE after I've played a game because it was so bad.

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Rock Band Tracks Go Cheap Til June]]> Damn, just bought all the songs I liked last week... Should've watied...

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on What's Worse: RRoD or GTA IV Lockup?]]> This post makes it sound like the 360 version of GTA doesn't have lock ups, and it's a Sony only thing... Did they fix the lock ups in 360 already? Is the lock up rate lower on the 360?
So really it should be:

PS3 = GTA lock up
360 = GTA lock up + RROD

How the hell is this even a poll where you disregard one problem completely because of another bigger overall problem.

@electroshockwave:
Anything looks better than something non-existant... well I thought Afrika got canceled or something.
Yeah I have the demo vid on my PS3. Never hear anything on it so I thought it vanished into thin air or was just another tech demo that never really ran on PS3. I actually wanted the game just because it looked "realistic" at the time. It should've been a launch title cuz the graphics looks pretty generic now by today's standards.
Good to know they are still working on it though, but it's a meh for me now if it is infact just a pokemon snap (Kinda figured that was the case when they show the guy w/ camera), unless they can blow me away w/ the graphics again.
Anyway I was harsh on the Afrika demo cuz I was angry at the game never came out =P

]]>
<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Wild Earth: African Safari Review: A-Wiimoweh]]> Heh, looks better than PS3's Afrika... Took them long enough now the Afrika promo looks like crap compared to everything else now.
Maybe Afrika was the same concept, of taking pictures, that's why they stopped making it?

I checked my Account History, Super Puzzle Fighter, Warhawk, Tekken, Calling All Cars, Everyday Shooter, since last year until my last purchase on 3/30/08, all didn't get charged tax...

Echocrome today was the first one with tax added to the price... bought Rockband songs just to see, tax added also....

]]>
<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on PlayStation Store Update: echochrome Edition]]> Call me a cheapskate but wasn't there used to be no tax when buying stuff on PSN?

I was waiting for echochrome to come out and wanted to buy it along with some Rockband songs... I thought the songs are expensive already since they add up, now I gotta pay more!!

When did they start charging tax? Was it with the new store update? Was I hallucinating all these time thinking you don't need to pay tax?

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Dreamcast Lives On (In New Jackie Chan Movie)]]> Yup, Dreamcast was THE fighting game machine before everything went to PS2.

The movie was only good if you like Jackie Chan and Jet Lee, and just watch the fights.

Script was stupid and one stupid line pretty much destroys the whole "video game homage" when the American kid mentioned there was a "The touch of death" move in Virtua Fighter...

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Siren: New Translation Is Pretty, Horrifying]]> They made the characters more powerful so the western audience would like it more I guess...

But it's a horror, I hope they would keep more characters very weak, so you can feel the helplessness.

They have only 1 little girl in it this time, she doesn't seem that cute for me to want to save her either...

Wish they would bring back the magic of part 1 more...
But it's a BUY for me either way... Siren Fan for LIFE!!

<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart]]> @Witzbold:
So it's simple compared to games like Starcraft, but is it pretty much the same as most other JPN strat games?

I don't like game that only requires me to group attack 1 enemy, kill, move on to the next. Pretty much takes little to no thinking at all to win, which is extremely boring to me. =/

I guess it's really difficult to say what is the standard for a "hard" game...
I'll get the game either way, just hope that the fights are somewhat on the hard side like what the JPN reviewers said, even for a RPG.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on BattleFantasia Is 2D Fighting Pretty]]> @BPMγ:
It's for both PS3 and 360 both with online play of course.
12 characters and plays like SF 3rd Strike, with a little more gimmics to the system like delay attacks to bait parries.
It's full 3D on a 2D only plain.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dir_en_grey commented on Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart]]> @Witzbold:
Rambo-ing is probably more of a reference to the action part.
I was commenting how I'm happy that the game is harder than the average Strategy RPG's, I've never really enjoyed Super Robot Wars for it's gameplay, cuz there's just not much "strategy" involved. The battle part in Sakura Wars felt like I was playing it just to trigger the cut scenes.

Not that I hated those games, just those game had something else besides the battle that made up for it. However this time with Valkyria seems like finally I can enjoy every part of the game cuz the battles actually seems fun and requires me to actually think.
