HCBailly on youtube has a huge man-crush on this game. You can watch his entire lets play of it.
I didn't like it because it was it was so on rails for so long and once the game opens up a little the side quests are all kinda the same. I don't think it deserves ehhh quite as much hate as I used to. I do like the combat system well enough, and the story is ok.

FFV is one of my favorites. The job system is great and a lot of fun. It's kind of unique having more female heroes than male. Also one of my favorite soundtracks out of all the FF's.
Mine is pretty freaking old, think I got it ind 2001. It still works but has some difficulty with CD based games. Think thats pretty common though.
