to keep this from threadjacking, i'm sending my reply via message. My position is, Not playing games never = win. But as you said, it's a matter of opinion and you answered honestly. However, I don't think your reasoning applies to Goldwin as, if you reread his post, he makes no mention of 'i think these games suck' only that he hasn't purchased or played them and that criteria on virtue of making him 'unique' made the situation a win. (I would argue that situation doesn't make him unique but I find myself too busy arguing that not playing games = fail, or at least, isn't a win.) A) I think that's a totally weird thing to say in response to a thread on Rockband NYPD numbers. B) I imagine if he thought about his post longer, he'd recant said opinion. (though I'm willing to be wrong on that assumption) C) Rockband/guitar hero, madden, GTA... it's just a weird swath of highly respected games/franchises to post that you're a winner for not having even tried them.... made me scratch my head. Sure, some people don't like certain kinds of games, but that isn't what he said. Also, now you've got me thinking. Say I don't like Rodan. I wouldn't be comfortable saying, "Man, I hate rodan's work, I'm a winner for never having experienced his stuff in person." As you said, games can be 'good' and due to opinion one still might dislike them. However, if a games good, I think you will learn something about structure, narrative, & design from experiencing it first hand. Or, liken it too reading the work of an intelligent thinker/arguer you disagree with politically, you gain insight and strength from exposing yourself to those divergent thoughts. anyway, thanks for the reply. He is certainly allowed to dislike a good game if he wants too. And I can't make him stop thinking of himself as a winner.
