<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on Six "Junk" Foods That Aren't All That Bad]]> @olegna: Lindt Excellence 85% is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the world's best dark chocolates. :)

Have you tried 99% chocolate? Lindt's is pretty good (and not too hard to find) but Cluziel Noir Infini is utterly amazing.

Anyway, on the general subject... I'm diabetic and appreciate some of this stuff. "Less food" is important, but "more appropriate food" is more important. Outside of vegetables, my two best friends are popcorn and beef jerky. I can make a meal of either, be sated, and my blood sugar will go down instead of up. So long as I get variety and vegetables in other meals, it works very well for me.

As far as wine goes, I'm glad the variety isn't that important. I have yet to find a red wine I enjoy, and most of them I can barely tolerate. Give me a Riesling or Gewurztraminer any day though. Or sake!

The first one went "SNAP!" about 45 minutes after I powered it on, never to be revived. The next one went "SNAP!" about 3 days into its life, with a bonus [i]red[/i] stripe across the black & white LCD display.

The third one was a Toshiba that outlived Rasputin.

<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on PC Gamers Pirating 20x the Games They Buy?]]> I'm a game developer who is twitching a bit at all these confessions. Glad I work in the MMO side of things.

Crytek's numbers may or may not be crazy -- there have been documented cases where some casual $15 game that "phones home" (ostensibly for high score lists, etc.) was found to be installed on 20x more computers than they sold licenses of it.

For all of those saying Crysis is a system killer and people pirate it just to put it through its paces -- are you not aware there's a free demo?

(I do have a small confession of my own -- in the past 15 years I have downloaded one "game" I didn't own -- a training title for the DS. I found I liked it, and bought it two days later. I don't expect I'd have bought it without trying it first. But to me, that just makes a stronger argument for demos or the old shareware model.)

<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on Seven Reasons The Segway Still Sucks]]> I just picked up an iZip 650 electric scooter. Not "cool" per se, but not as dorky as a Segway, costs 1/10 the price, slightly faster (15MPH feels pretty fast on 5" wheels when you feel every tiny bump), takes up less storage space, works well on sidewalks, and there's some physicality in riding it (more than the average road bike anyway).

Not the perfect vehicle, but I can get to work for about one penny per day.

As a standard action, I hit you with Eyebite.

I burn an action point and open up a Hunger of Hadar under your chair.

Suck it, haters. :)

<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on Glo Gloves Reflective Cycling Gear]]> Two things happened to me today:

1. While at a stop sign, I got rear-ended by an old lady who wasn't paying attention (she then backed up and almost into the car behind her). This was in a full-sized, SCREAMING YELLOW car that she apparently didn't notice.

2. I bought a small electric scooter. It's not street legal, and I would be royally screwed if Grandma Headintheclouds bumped me on it like she did the car.

I'll stick with the sidewalk, thanks.

<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on Easy Ways to Save Money on Gas]]> I'm looking into getting an electric scooter for commuting. It looks like about $350 for an IZip 650 (which from what I gather online is on the potentially good quality side of the low end, though I've found no reviews yet of that specific model).

It'd just about pay for itself in a year, assuming an average of $4/gallon (who knows?), my present car getting 20mpg (which is a low estimate), 10.4 mile round trip, and assuming 160 workdays of suitable weather per year.

And if not, it'd still pay for itself in a couple of years.

And if it proves too unreliable to last that long, well, I've spent money in less useful ways.

<![CDATA[Crashproof commented on Steam's Latest Hardware Survey Results Are In]]> I just got a widescreen monitor. I played a little TF2 on it in 1024x768 windowed mode, because I still had a sad 7300 in there, which got about 1.5 fps in 1680x1050.

So maybe that sort of thing is a factor in those widescreen folks running weird resolutions?

About 2 hours later I picked up a 9600GT, joining the ranks of gamers who can crank all video settings up to max. Whoo!
