@dracosummoner
i agree and disagree on that. i mean, i paid almost 100 for Ever17, but thats a game i could actually physically obtain. something like Tsukihime, which i have never actually seen a copy of, is something entirely different.
its not exclusive to gamestop tho. oprainfall's blog has links that allow you to order it from the nintendo website, as well as play-asia.
well, for comparison's sake, i'll load up the most recent free expansion's Beastlord ice nuke to show the differences between the ranks. i know beastlord is not a free class, but it can still prove the point.

Rank 1 of Glacial Lance does 4038 ice damage at its base, before applying in spell foci, Alternate advancement, and crits, at a cost of 915 mana. to obtain this spell, i believe it is available via a merchant at the zone line to the House of Thule zone.

Rank 2 of Glacial Lance does 4586 damage, for a cost of 1015 mana. higher damage, higher mana cost. To obtain this particular spell, you must obtain a specific spell crystal either from the game's bazaar or from a mission or named enemy.

Rank 3 of Frostrift Lance does 4953 damage for a cost of 1071 mana. again, higher damage, higher mana cost. This particular spell is obtained from collecting specific spell crystals collected from defeating raid events.

the difference is somewhat noticable, moreso on some of the hilariously mana-heavy wizard spells, or some of the cleric buffs. other examples of improvements include less resistability, more hit points or strength from the spell, etc.

rank 1 spells are definitely capable of doing what needs to be done, rk2+ just make it a little easier.

the greater concern at this moment for the free to play characters is the lack of Alternate Advancement points. unfortunately, that will be a great concern unless they alter the amount free and silver can obtain. much moreso than the spell ranks anyway.

hope i could explain it a little better.

looks like according to the FAQ and matrix, F2P cant go to the progression server. it makes sense from a business standpoint, as thats probably the most popular server in the game, but still, kinda sucks that silvers cant go.
im double checking now, broker is the term they use for the bazaar program currently in place, but there might a new system on the horizon, im not recalling offhand.
in later expansions of the game, they introduced a ranked spell system. all spells prior to the Serpent's Spine expansion didnt have ranked, but all after had 3 ranks. Generally rank 1s were the easiest to get, with rank 3's being the hardest to obtain (generally raiding)
certainly what it looks like in the FAQ

"Characters that were created before February 29, 2012 will be allowed to log in (regardless of if you are currently over the cap of characters or do not have their race or class unlocked). "

theyre still making expansions for it, so its not all bought and paid for. and the cheaper subscription model concept still didnt save LEGO universe.
in the FAQ, it did seem that characters made before the 29th of feb will be usable for everyone.

"Characters that were created before February 29, 2012 will be allowed to log in (regardless of if you are currently over the cap of characters or do not have their race or class unlocked). "

im gonna have to agree with this. 999 is one of the best experiences anyone can ask for on the DS.
swear to god, if that gets skipped for the PC version like AVP was....
id say you'd prolly be better off finding something else, unless you can get it for 20 or less. if you didnt like DA1, you prolly wouldnt like DA2 either. you can still hit up Witcher 2 if you havent yet, and xenoblade comes out in a month.
there were things i preferred about DA2, and things i preferred about DA:O. overall id put it worse than DA:O, but mostly due to things like retconning my own Warden's story. That said, the 2nd act of DA2 mightve been one of my favorite parts of any game this year.

and bulletstorm *is* ridiculous, but its a fun kind of ridiculous. its kind of what i wish duke nukem had been.

So i beat 24 games in 2011. I prolly couldve done more, but MMOs and TF2 and such. a lot of these titles were part of my backlog and i hadnt gotten around to finishing them, so the years on them range significantly.

full list, in no particular order:
Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Littlebigplanet 2
Portal 2 (both campaigns)
Sonic Generations
Sonic Colors
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Pokemon White
Bulletstorm
Limbo
Front Mission Evolved
Kirby Canvas Curse
Pokemon Emerald
Halo: Reach
Duke Nukem Forever
Dragon Age 2
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Shatter
VVVVVV
InFamous
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean
The Conduit

best one, to me, was portal 2.

worst was duke nukem forever. not necessarily a *bad* game, it was just a meh game

most pleasant surprise for the year was Bulletstorm. would not have thought that id actually enjoy a shooter anymore.

most disappointing was definitely Lufia: curse of the sinistrals. i was hoping something that could at least match the original Lufia II. good runner-up was Front Mission Evolved. man that game had so much potential.

but my favorite that I played in 2011 was Pokemon White, followed by Sonic Colors.

how about you guys? what were your conquests of 2011?

he's portraying a kid with Asperger's syndrome. his behavior matches my own back in my younger days.
well, its certainly no Fate/Zero, but we'll see how it does.
well, i was screwed from the get go. our 2 gamestops both had fatal frames 1 and 2. one store had #3, other store had SMT: Nocturne. neither store had Champions: Return to Arms at the time, so i grabbed something as a gift and decided to go for the complete collection.
yesterday there was a buy 2 get 2 free sale on used PS2 games at Gamestop. Got all 3 fatal frames and Kindom Hearts 2. was awesome.
congrats winners. my Hatoful boyfriend one was no match
