Steam took plenty of hostages when it came out. I didn't choose Steam when I installed Half Life 2 all those years ago. In fact, I didn't want it, and I still resent, to at least some extent, that Valve forces me to install their client if I want to play their games.

I've been burned too many times, even by close friends, to lend games. Lent Kingdom Hearts to a close friend, her boyfriends PS2 started to not read the disc, so he KICKED it. Fucked up the disc.
Lent KotOR to my aunt, when she took it out to change games she just lay the damn thing on the TV stand and scratched it. No more lending games...
Actually, I did read the first one before the game came out as well. Wasn't the greatest novel, but it was nice to know the backstory of Captain Anderson.

I never found any of the Mass Effect novels to be worth reading, errors or not. Maybe they should get Eric Nylund to write them.
