Indeed, what a wonderful life it is to wake up and have access to the internet so I can keep up with the news while I drink a cup of hot tea before getting on with the rest of my day. What a life I have indeed.
9. To make a claim of wrongdoing against; accuse or blame: The police charged him with car theft. Critics charged the writer with a lack of originality.[www.thefreedictionary.com]
Yes, charges against you. Nice to see such a professional, respectful response from you.
You'd certainly be welcome, you'll certainly see a few familiar names over there. I think three years qualifies pretty well, I haven't been around here much longer myself. Either way, feel free to sign up, opinions flow freely over there so as long as you're not making things personal, you should get on fine. Just a browse around the forums and you'll see what it's like.
I did make it a tad too personal by making the accusation and I honestly don't think he was but the way the article came across - how it championed a $2,800 laptop as the saviour of the PC; it was hard holding myself back from making the comment.
I feel some of his responses were far more disrespectful though. I mean, sure, I questioned his integrity but that could, easily enough, be considered a fair criticism of a writer's work, albeit an extreme one. His comments, I felt, stooped as low as some of the comments that his site's own commenting guidelines would deem trollish.
No matter though. There isn't any point continuing on about it. I'll still be around here but I'll likely be commenting much less. That incident has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Hopefully I'll see you over on the PXOD forums. I'll add you too once I remember to do so when I'm firing up the PS3 or Steam. I have that thread bookmarked with your id but keep on forgetting, lol
Joel wasn't very happy with my comments on his article so he took my star away: [kotaku.com] href="http://kotaku.com/comments/">#comments
Ah well, I'm spending most of my time now over at Press X or Die ([forum.pressxordie.com] with the rest of the old Kotaku folks so it doesn't really bother me.
Management is Bredan McNamara, not Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games do not own Team Bondi, they merely published and lent a hand to the development of LA Noire.
What would possess someone? Fun. It comes in all shapes and sizes. Some people can have fun spending hundreds of hours catching every pokemon. Others can achieve the same constructing a simle computer in Minecraft.
Minecart pushing is unskilled work. Let's throw the children back down the shafts. That'll teach 'em the value of a coin!
Not getting break periods and not getting all your due pay isn't right, no matter what way you spin it. It is a violaton of your rights, at least here in Ireland. I'd bring them to the fucking cleaners if they did the same to me, industry be damned.
42 inch TV and a PC! But that's not possible!!! :D
Is your steam name the same as your Kotaku name? I don't recognise it from GTFO...then again, it's been a fair while since I've played TF2....hmmmmm....I'll have to remedy that.
Where is the part where you have to become impressed? Is something only worth pursuing and continuing if you're impressed by it?
Fair enough, you may not care too much for mods but many, many more people do and for good reason. Twilight is popular for a reason, it clicks with a lot of people for a reason. Again, we may not like it but it's not our market. It's not aimed at us. Shovelware is a different issue. Shovelware is popular because it's not generally aimed at the discerning gamer. It's generally aimed at the casual/parental purchaser.
Project Reality and Counterstrike are popular for yet another reason -They are damn fine FPS mods. Yeah, you read that right, no matter your opinion on mods or even those games. Take it from someone that has grown up playing FPS after FPS since the birth of the genre. They are fucking good. That is why they are popular and the only reason they exist is because of the freedom to mod.
You're trying to make a point about how it's not as big of a deal as people make it out. Perhaps you just don't care but that does nothing to change the importance of modding in the games industry. Now, will the lack of modding for BF3 kill it? No..some other things may though. Will the lack of modding change anything? Who's to say? We could have missed out on the best FPS experience ever devised by man or we could have just missed out on some unbalanced maps and shitty skins. We'll never know. That may be why some people make a big deal about it. Perhaps they're thinking that if there are no mods, they're missing out on some great content. Then maybe there's some people who look at the bigger picture. Perhaps they want in on the industry or just wants to see some great designers do well.
TL;DR: Even if you don't see the importance of modding, it doesn't mean it's not important.
As Nethlem said, they only track NA sales so as an indicator of how weak retail sales and the PC market is in NA, they act as a good shot in the dark but that's all they'll ever be.
