Opera, the browser of choice for the Wii, has come out with a handy guide on how to adjust your websites to be picture perfect when being browsed by the Nintendo console. On top of some general specs that are more detailed (that you've probably figured out by now, for example, the Wii browser only has Flash support up to 7, and browser window size requirements), it also goes into detail (sometimes with code) on how you may be able to get your website to load. Of course, it's a pretty dense read, and anyone who is a novice at programming won't understand some of it. However, it is kind of a fun, geeky read for people who want to know how it all works. <span class="byline>Kim Phu More »

Operatic pop singer Sarah Brightman will be belting out the theme to Poket Monster Diamond & Pearl the Movie: Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai. Brightman is best known as Christine in Phantom of the Opera — The role was tailored especially for her by her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. The ballad, Be With You: Itsumo Soba ni (Always By Your Side), was recorded for her next album, and the single will be out in Japan on July 11th. This is the ninth installment in the Pokémon feature film series, and the previous movies have raked in over 38 million attendees and taken US $347 million at the box office. Long title or not, expect Poket Monster Diamond & Pearl the Movie: Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai to make lots and lots of money. Brian Ashcraft More »

What's the final version the Opera browser for the Wii like? Don't ask Opera reps, they don't know reports Wired's Chris Kohler. Of course, they'd love to add things like widget support and tabbed browsing, but it's not exactly Opera's decision to make. It's Nintendo's. And why isn't the Opera browser for the DS out in America? Once again, that's up to Nintendo. So, the point of involving Opera was what again? Brian Ashcraft More »

You know, the ones with the kitchen that cleaned itself, a robot walked the dog and there was that separate plastic bubbled off area for the mother-in law. The Simpsons even had that great computer controlled house with the voice of Pierce Brosnan. <a href="http://kotaku.com/224049/the-house-of-tomorrow-today" title="Click here to read more about The House Of Tomorrow... A touching tribute to a dying 360 backed by Madame Butterfly's Un Bel Di Vedremo. Nintendo has launched its official site for the Wii console. As of right now, only the Japanese version is functional. There are clips of the different "Wii Channels". There's the "Nigaoe Channel" ("Cariacture Channel") in which players can create in-Wii versions of themselves, friends and family. There's also the "New Channel," which has, well, news. And likewise, there's a "Weather Channel" with national and international forecasts. There are two more clips that Nintendo has yet to reveal, but up closer look at the "Wii Menu" clip, it's easy to see that there is a "Photo Channel" and an Opera-based "Internet Channel" as well. Brian Ashcraft More »

The irony, of course, is that if you're using the DS Opera Browser to surf Kotaku right now, you can't actually see the excellent YouTube video review Josh Z. sent us of his Japanese import version. More »

A demonstration of Opera DS. It looks obnoxious and unusable to me. That sounds like a critique, but really, it's just an observation of the limitations. Opera looks like they've made the experience of browsing on a Post-It sized screen as palatable as possible, but this would still become a browser of last resort for the likes of me. Florian Eckhardt More »

Well, this is rather nifty. At a recent retail product fair in Japan, Nintendo announced a VoIP headset for the DS and DS Lite. It's set to go on sale in Japan around September 14th. Price? Only about $10, surprisingly. It's designed to allow you to engage in more comfortable, lower volume smack talk with your Metroid Prime: Hunters or Pokemon buddies. More »

Opera DS, by all accounts, looks remarkably usable. But there's got to be trade offs in any portable browsing solution like this: PocketPCs haven't mastered portable web browsing yet, so we can hardly expect full usability from Opera DS. So what, exactly, can't we expect? More »

Before I got the magic beams of WiFi invisibly oscillating through the air of my apartment, I couldn't have cared less about Opera for the DS. Go Nintendo has scored some pretty box shots of the Japanese Opera DS Browser package. I can't translate those crazy looking Japanese bug cryptograms — that's how Ashcraft earns his booze money — but we notice that 'Opera' isn't exactly being prominently displayed on the box. Real Tech News has some screenshots up illustrating what it will be like to browse the Internet with Opera on the DS. The most surprising thing? It looks damn good, with a snazzy dedicated handwriting recognition window. More »

This June will see the Japanese launch of the new DS Opera browser, seyz Nintendo Power magazine. The browser lets folks surf the web via their Dual Screen. Word 'round the campfire is that it will launch in the US this December. No word on a Euro release. Typical. More »

It's official: the Opera Internet Browser is coming to the Nintendo DS in June 2006 for Japan. We don't quite get this. Even using a web browser on most Pocket PCs is an excruciating ordeal. Visiting simple sites on a baseball card sized screen is like trying to remove your wisdom teeth by head-butting a doorknob: definitely painful and not the most efficient way to do things. Shrink that screen down to the size of a postage stamp and it looks like you're going to pay $40 bucks merely for what you could alreadyon your DS for free: not read the Internet web sites you want to read.Still, Opera is a very cool web browser and we're intrigued to see what solutions they can come up with to make web browsing on the DS viable. Let's keep our fingers crossed.Opera Due in December [4 Color Rebellion] More »
