FilePlanet Presents The Age Of Conan Open Beta

Funcom, Eidos, and IGN are proud to present the 'open' beta for Age Of Conan, coming to a PC near you on May 1st, if you're lucky. Members of FilePlanet are invited to sign up for the open beta period, with 50,000 slots on the line for a chance to put the game through its paces. In order to make sure people are focusing on actually testing it, the lucky thousands will be restricted to level 13, so don't think you're getting that much of a leg up on the pile.

"The IGN and FilePlanet audience has consistently told us that Age of Conan is one of their most anticipated games of the year, and we are very pleased to partner with Funcom and Eidos on the Open Beta," says Senior Vice President of Consumer Products at IGN, Jamie Berger.

More fun with beta testing! Starting tomorrow, PC gamers will be able to go to Fileplanet and download the Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts open beta, but how open is it really? From Relic's website:

Starting August 30th, the Opposing Fronts Open Beta will begin. Anyone with a Fileplanet account can attempt to download and play the Beta. There will be key releases twice a week which will continue throughout the remainder of the Beta.

I like the "can attempt" part. Interested to see how this all works out. I suppose I will log into Fileplanet tomorrow and give a go at testing out the next chapter in one of the best reviewed RTS games of all time. Wish me luck! More »

Acclaim's 2Moons MMORPG in Open Beta

In something of a departure from Dance!, the new Acclaim Game's 'extreme action MMORPG' (it sounds so dramatic) 2Moons started its open beta last week to little fanfare - as far as I can tell, there's not been a lot of press on the game. With the tag line of "No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain," the adaptation of Korean MMORPG Dekaron is being aimed towards adults and will retain the free to play model even after going live. David Perry, the guy behind Earthworm Jim and Enter the Matrix, is behind this adaptation. I'm not sure how the promise of 'Massive bloody battles! You against thousands! Blast monsters into chunks of writhing flesh!' differentiates this game from all the other MMORPGS where you ... kill things with lots of other people. More »
