It doesn't take much to impress the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records, I guess. They deemed the gathering of 80 cosplayers, each dressed up as a video game character, "The Largest Gathering of Games Characters" that they've ever had on record. A man who goes by the handle MobileTone, a reader of Sony's semi-official blog ThreeSpeech, has decided that permanently tattooing "PS3" on his right forearm was a good idea. Odd that he didn't go with the official typeface for the "world's first PS3 tattoo", but also quite understandable. I'm sure that PS3 text can be gracefully re-inked into something else, should he grow tired of it. The tattooed man says "I doubt i'll ever regret it" but speaking from the experience of having a 3DO tattoo on your left calf and never knowing the comfort of shorts for fear of ridicule, I'm fairly certain a tinge of regret will hit one day. UK outlet MCV chatted it up with retailers to get a frontline perspective on how Console War VII is shaping up. According to their findings, those in the retail space are quite taken with Xbox 360 manufacturer Microsoft. Some 49% of them pegged the Xbox 360 as the winner of the "next generation battle" and a majority of them pointed to Microsoft as having the best "overall quality and attitude" toward retail outlets this year. Making gobs of cash from the Halo 3 launch may very well have helped that, but it's nice to know they care. More »

The marketing geniuses at, I assume, at EA's UK offices may be on the receiving end of some advertising awards this year, as they've cleverly combined breasts and cars for a recent promotion for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 racer Need For Speed ProStreet. The promotion, featuring Page 3 girls Amii and Becky, explores what happens with four breasts are positioned within posing distance of a red Ferrari. We're still studying the results here at the Kotaku Media Labs, but at first blush, it seems that EA may have something here. It looks like Sony has rolled out some sort of working download service for the Playstation Portable in the UK. If you visit YourPSP.com's download section in the UK you get dumped into a kinda new interface called the PSP Store. So far the store seems to only feature a bunch of freebies, including movies, demos, music and photos, but its designed to allow you to purchase online downloadable content. Could this be Sony's answer to iTunes? It looks like a workable interface, though it will be hard to judge until it's packed with tons of content you'd actually want to download let alone pay for. Let's hope this is the first step toward television shows making their way onto your PSP without having to record, convert and transfer them. Brian Crecente More »
