To stir up interest in its upcoming 3DS, Nintendo is holding "Nintendo World 2011" at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Admission is totally free.

The event is open to the public and will run from January 8 to January 10, 10:00am to 5:00pm. Nintendo hasn't not yet revealed what titles will be on display.

The Makuhari Messe is the location of the Tokyo Game Show, an event Nintendo typically sits out.

While details are currently scant, the event is likely to be similar to Nintendo's 2006 Nintendo World. Nintendo used the event to introduce the Wii and its software to gamers. The event had demo booths for gamers to check out upcoming titles. There were also Wii games there, leading me to believe that this Nintendo World won't be a 3DS only affair. This is unconfirmed, however.
