Anyone out there remember World Heroes, Alpha Denshi's not that great fighting game for the Neo Geo platform? There were only a handful of them, with sequels like World Heroes 2 Jet and World Heroes Perfect hitting arcades throughout the early nineties. Fortunately for those who have fond memories of the 2D fighter, SNK Playmore is releasing a collection of four World Heroes games for the PlayStation 2. More »

We knew that NEOGEO titles were coming to the Wii Virtual Console, but who knew they would come so soon, and in such abundance? Nintendo dedicated the entire week to the premier fighting platform of the early 90's, releasing Fatal Fury, World Heroes, and Art of Fighting all at once, all for you. Each game costs 900 Wii Points, so do you want to take down Geese Howard, Mr. Karate, or Geegus? Which flavor of NEOGEO fighter suits your tastes? Will SNK ever create a boss character whose name sounds halfway menacing? All of these answers and less can be found in this week's VC update. More »

Ask and you shall receive! SNK Playmore today announces that several of their most popular NeoGeo arcade titles will be heading to the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. This marks the first actual arcade gaming titles released on Nintendo's system, even if they did technically run on a console as well. Classic titles slated for the system include Fatal Fury, World Heroes, and Art of Fighting, with more titles expected to be announced in the months to come. The games will carry a hefty price tag of 900 Wii Points a pop, second only to N64 titles (at 1000 points a piece). I was reading comments from our Virtual Console update just this week and recall someone calling out Nintendo for not having NeoGeo titles for download. Well here you go, that guy. Grats! More »

SNK has decided to stop offering maintenance and repairs for the Neo Geo home hardware, accessories and game cartridges as well as Neo Geo CD, Neo Geo CDZ and the Neo Geo Pocket. SNK left the console business by the year 2000, but continued to support its hardware. Starting August 31st, it won't. The reason? Getting parts has become increasingly difficult. Sega, likewise, announced earlier this year that it would no longer service its consoles starting this fall. It's the end of an era. Rehash specialist SNK Playmore will never be accused of neglecting its 2D-fighting fanbase. In addition to the recently released Art of Fighting Collection for the PlayStation 2 (with Wii and PSP versions rumored), the company is dredging up Neo Geo memories to bring yet another collection to the PS2 in Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1. The game will collect Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury 3 and Fatal Fury Special in what is expected to be a budget-priced package. More »

While news of SNK Playmore bringing their Art of Fighting Collection to the States wasn't exactly surprising, news of the anthology making appearances on both the PSP and Wii might be a bit more unexpected. The Wii Virtual Console in Japan is set to add another two console selections to its lineup — the fighter friendly Neo Geo and the MSX. The Neo Geo is SNK's baby and home to King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Metal Slug, and various other masterpieces of the 2D gaming age. The MSX is of course Japan's early-80s attempt to standardize the world computer market. The effort didn't pan out despite brisk sales, but as a game platform it excelled, giving birth to such esteemed series as Metal Gear, Bomberman, Parodius, and Puyo Puyo. More »

Wait. Holy grails? Isn't that like naming your band The Lone Rangers? Shouldn't there be only one? Whatever. Racketboy's excellent Retrogaming site counts down the most sought after—meaning extremely expensive but not exactly good—video games from the last 30-odd years. More »

Well, it held out longer than Pac-Man, Frogger, and even Pong, but the Metal Slug series is finally extruding into the third dimension this June. Screens of the SNK shooter are available at The Magic Box and, well, that's a 3-D shooter all right. More »

Ben Heckendorn, portable game hacker extraordinaire, managed to hobble together a portable Neo Geo with his usual panache. Heckendornuses phrases like no-brainer and "I scoff at difficulty" in his write up of the process, so don't go thinking you're go to read his walk-through and then plop down and build your own porty NG. More »
