Remakes are all the rage these days! Whether it's literally remaking a classic, or just putting out "reimaginings" of long-running franchises, we can't get enough of the good old stuff. By re-releasing Rez on XBLA, you'd think Q's Tetsuya Mizuguchi would be big on the idea of remaking more of his classic titles, right? Like...Space Channel 5, maybe? Sadly, he's not, telling Eurogamer there's no "really special reason to remake Space Channel 5 now". Reason being that Rez was an experience, which could be improved upon with HD graphics, 5:1, etc, while SC5 is "funny, like a comical TV show. I don't feel the need for much more resolution in that!". Oh dear. Just because YOU don't need to see Ulala in a higher resolution, Miz, doesn't man WE don't need to. More »

Yup, that's Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi with Yoko Ono. Miz is hosting a two hour radio program called "Imagine ~A Message from John and Yoko~" on Friday, December 7th. That's a day before the anniversary of Lennon's assassination. Back in October, Mizuguchi met Ono in Iceland at the unveiling of Imagine Peace Tower. The tower, which Ono designed, will be lit every year between Lennon's birth on October 9th and his death on December 8th. Ringo Starr and Sean Lennon were also in attendance. Says Miz: More »

While chatting with Tetsuya Mizuguchi, we touched on a variety of things. Things that matter. Like new Rez, more Ulala and Al Gore. What would be better than Rez remake? A Rez sequel. Miz didn't explicitly mention a totally new Rez, but did hint at his interest in doing a Rez sequel. So, why start off with the HD port? More »

Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the man behind Rez and Lumines, talks with The Guardian's Alek Krotoski. Miz, like usual, is a good interview with much to say about music, clubbing and those evil Lumines Live micro-transactions. And he offers this back story on working with The King of Pop: <a href="http://kotaku.com/234839/whats-it-like-working-with-jacko-ask-miz" title="Click here to read more about What's It Like Working With Jacko? While the American version of Lumines II featured the likes of Beck, Gwen Stefani and New Order, the Japanese release looks set to have totally different tunes. The game's creator Q Entertainment just announced that Japanese reggae band Def Tech will be lending it its tune "KONOMAMA" to the game. Never thought of it before, but Def Tech's music should vide well will Lumines puzzling. Hit the jump for the band's smash hit tune "My Way," which won't appear in the game but is still kewl. Brian Ashcraft More »

Swedish game site Spelbeber shot this video of Lumines luminary Tetsuya Mizuguchi playing Lumines II at Nordic Game 06. Here, Miz shows never-before-seen tracks. Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment is moving into the online realm. The good folks at Gizmodo Japan just kicked a press release our way, announcing Meteos Online and Angel Love Online. Previously appearing on the Nintendo DS, Meteos was described by Mizuguchi as a "mutli-tasking puzzle game." The online version will a six-player mode as well as extra content not featured on the DS version. Angel Love Online is a Taiwanese-produced MMORPG, and there are plans to do an online beta test in China. Brian Ashcraft More »

In Lumines, the music matters. A lot. Game site 1Up has a peak at the sequel's soundtrack with this track called "Heavenly Star." While the video was inspired by A-ha's "Take On Me" music vid and was designed by Japanese visual artist Glamoove, the song is sung by the Genki Rockets and was co-penned by game creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. This must be twenty colors of coolness. Brian Ashcraft More »

To mark the sale of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's techno shooter Every Extend Extra, Japanese clothes retailer Beams is selling this shirt. Back in 2002, Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Rez caused quite a stir when the game was packaged with a "trance vibrator." And even a bigger stir when 1Up's Jane Pinckard explained exactly what it does.

Big-in-Japan Korean pop princess BoA apparently didn't make the final cut for Lumines II reports game site Siliconera. At E3, the songstress's tunes appeared on the floor demo for hip designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi's latest puzzler. Logic tells us that her music should find its way into the finished product, but Buena Vista Games PR says this isn't going to happen. As the US version and the Japanese version could be different, there is a chance BoA could still make an appearance. She's a logical choice as the singer appeared on Mizuguchi's Ninety-Nine Nights for the Xbox 360. And we all remember how that turned out. Brian Ashcraft More »

While the first Lumines featured the hypnotic groves of Japanese band Mondo Grosso, the sequel will get some "pretty big names" says creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Those artists will be revealed in the upcoming weeks, but my money's on the likes of Fatboy Slim or the Chemical Brothers as Mizuguchi's a big fan of both acts. And those guys could use a boost. Brian Ashcraft More »

Tetsuya Mizuguchi, producer of Lumines and Rez, will act as executive producer for the DS and PSP remakes of Gunpey. Originally released for Bandai's Wonderswan, we can expect Gunpey-R (the R is for Rebirth!) to hit some time in late 2006/early 2007. In the standard Miz fashion, the audio-visual presentation will be a major focus for the puzzle titles—both will feature the same gameplay, but noticeably different graphical styles and user interfaces. More »

The biggest mystery at E3, the thing that got everyone talking was not the Wii or the PS3. Rather, it was what the hell happened to Toshihiro Nagoshi's skin. Somewhere between bringing us classics like Super Monkey Ball and Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza), the acclaimed designer got locked in a tanning booth. In the center of the Earth. For years. More »

The Xbox 360-only RPG Ninety-Nine Nights will drop in American stores this August reports AOL Joystiq's sweet-smelling Alan Rose. The game is the spawn of Lumines luminary Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Kingdom Under Fire dude Sang Youn Lee. Three-thousand people crammed into the Highlands above Hollywood Boulevard for the Nintendo party. Gaming's royalty gathered to check out hip-hop act the Black Eyed Peas, down free booze and gobble up finger food. Doors opened at 6:00 pm and by 7:30, the event was in full-force. Mario-maker Shigeru Miyamoto, Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima, Lumines luminary Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Super Monkey Ball trainer Toshiro Nagoshi and Killer 7 hitman Goichi Suda all were in attendance. The *literally* coolest thing? A large Ninty ice sculpture with a funnel through which the bartender poured stoop-inducing firewater. Guests received completely Nintendo noise-making keychains. Some guest received more of these keychains than other guests. Relatively sober slideshow after the jump. <a href="http://kotaku.com/172715/e306-nintendo-power+ups-la-nightlife" title="Click here to read more about E306: Nintendo Power-Ups L.A. Take it as a good sign. Japan's geekiest adult video actress Ann Namba bought Ninety-Nine Nights, even name dropping Mizuguchi. "I'm so glad I bought it," she blogs as a glimmer of hope flashes in the eyes of Peter Moore. The *literally* hardcore actress-come-gamer has already impressed many by previously lining up for a DS Lite, gushing over Final Fantasy 12 and doing others unmentionables. More »

So Mizuguchi's RPG Ninety-Nine Nights just launched in Japan, and MSoft has licensed N3 tees, mugs and bags. Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi's high profile Xbox 360 RPG Ninety-Nine Nights just went on sale here in Japan. Television ads and in-displays (see above) are leading the big marketing push. When I spoke to Mizuguchi last year, he seemed genuinely excited about the game. Too bad this anonymous retailer (Yodobashi Camera in Osaka) doesn't share the same excitement. The posters and flat screen look hot; the original Xbox housed in a green case ain't. Microsoft, deploy the PR goons and quick! <a href="http://kotaku.com/168748/99-nights-on-the-original-xbox-doh" title="Click here to read more about 99 Nights On The Original Xbox... Tetsuya Mizuguchi's "Multi Angled Scenario", Korean co-produced, orc smashing fantasy title Ninety Nine Nights has gotten dated in Japan. The story centers on a powerful stone that brings fear into the work and leads to 99 nights. Hence, the title. Daylight returns on the hundredth day. When I talked to Mizuguchi at TGS, he seemed genuinely excited about this title and about how players could change from one to character to another. The Xbox 360 title looks to breathe life into the limping console, which hasn't gotten the warmest of welcomes in the Land of the Rising Sun. Game drops here in Japan April 20th. More »
