We'd heard rumors about it from a few Steam users over the past couple weeks, but now it's confirmed. That means Windows gamers can enjoy titles like Manhunt, Max Payne, Midnight Club II and the Grand Theft Auto series from the comfort of their broadband connections. Hickey values the Rockstar Games portfolio alone at about $1 billion, which doesn't even begin to cover the other big Take-Two intellectual properties—BioShock, Carnival Games, Civilization—all of which could make the company very attractive to buyers. On Level Up, N'Gai posted a column about how our saved game files are actually worth more than a $60 game. N'Gai calculates that his Mass Effect saved game is worth $122.10. His point: We should back up our saved games more often. And at MTV's Multiplayer Blog, Stephen Totilo posted a fascinating essay on how Rockstar's removal of the scoring system in Manhunt 2 changed the way he played through the final version. A quest in Diablo II here. Some Jet Grind Radio there. The new games I've purchased over the past weeks mostly sit idly or are enjoyed by my house's other residents. For instance, I've had a wonderful time watching Tomb Raider: Anniversary being played, offering backseat gamer suggestions and strategies, longing to get off the laptop and get my hands on a controller.
