"I was all bloody," Keiji Inafune said recently. The game developer, best known for titles like Dead Rising and Mega-Man, was recalling a time before he made video games, the time he was in junior high school, growing up in one of Japan's toughest areas and getting punched. More »

Former Capcom developer Keiji Inafune said recently at Ritsumeikan University that there was a time his old studio had a rule that 70 or 80 percent of games were sequels and the rest new games. New games weren't usually approved—something Inafune hinted to Kotaku in 2006 when he said Capcom rejected both Dead Rising and Lost Planet. So, Capcom, David Hayter and producer Avi Arad are making a Lost Planet movie. If it followed the plot of the games, there'd be robot suits, and there'd be giant bugs. But then, it's not following the plot of the games! More »

We're fairly sure that Lost Planet 2, despite its press release's decidedly pro-360 slant, will not be exclusive to the Xbox 360. The Resident Evil movies were B-grade stuff. The upcoming Street Fighter movie does not look promising. But Capcom are making more movies, and Lost Planet is one of them. And on that, they are not messing around. More »

MGS actor and Hollywood writer David Hayter said, a few weeks back, that a deal to bring Lost Planet to the big screen was "not entirely confirmed yet". Is now! Variety are reporting that the project's a done deal, with Warner Bros. to distribute, former Marvel pictures boss Avi Arad to produce and Hayter to write. Capcom will be contributing at least some, if not all of the money for the movie, though there's no word on a release window. Expect more info at Capcom's E3 event tomorrow. More »

The voice of Solid Snake says that the film adaptation of Capcom's Lost Planet is this close — you can't see, but my fingers are but a hair's-breadth apart — to being confirmed, pending a deal with Warner Bros. That deal, David Hayter says, is "just closing" but "not entirely confirmed yet" according to a report from IGN. More »

Yesterday's episode of Evil Avatar's podcast featured as a special guest David "Voice of Solid Snake" Hayter. They got chatty, they talked Metal Gear, but something else they talked about was Hayter's other line of work: as a Hollywood writer. Over the year's, Hayters worked on movies like X-Men 1 & 2 and the Scorpion King, and he's even at work on the upcoming Watchmen flick as well. Seems he's also in discussions with both Capcom and Warner Bros to write a screenplay for a Lost Planet movie. Interesting choice, Capcom. Can't say I enjoyed the game too much, but the setting could work as a flick, especially if it's pitched at the Chronicles of Riddick end of the budget/market. More »

Capcom has partnered with Devil's Due Publishing—apparently I'm out of the comic book publisher loop—to introduce a series of comic book titles based on properties like Bionic Commando and Lost Planet. Capcom announced over the weekend that they've bought K2 Studios, best known for their work on the more recent, more rubbish Tenchu games, as well as Valhalla Knights . That's probably not the reason for the purchase, though: K2 also did some outsource work for Capcom on Lost Planet, and are also helping SNK with the latest Samurai Shodown. The move's aimed at making Capcom's "game development activities more efficient and speedy", while "Capcom also believes that pursuing a business strategy based on closer ties with K2 will help increase the value of the entire Capcom Group". And hey, who are we to argue. More »

Capcom's announcement of Lost Planet: Colonies shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when it hits next week. The trademark was filed last Spring and the ESRB rating hit last month. Yesterday, the Achievements for the Xbox 360 expansion (sequel?) to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition were leaked, posted, then pulled by Xbox 360 Sync. They don't tell us too much about the game, other than that it would appear the game may have a serious multiplayer focus. We'll know soon enough. More »

If you have been lagging on checking out the frozen landscapes and giant bugs of Lost Planet now is your chance to do it cheap! This week Circuit City is listing Capcom's Lost Planet (360 version) for the low, low price of $19.99. According to the pages I checked, the offer is only available through the website and not available for in-store pick up but you may want to check your local store just to make sure. I must admit I am way behind the tip on this game, but I just got a copy for the PS3 that I am anxious to try out. My skills with shooters have improved vastly since BioShock so perhaps I can get through this one without too much embarrassment. More »

What do Devil May Cry 4, Hot Shots Golf and now Lost Planet on the PS3 all have in common? They all feature mandatory 5GB installs. And two of them are from Capcom. Seriously, Capcom, what's the deal? Devil May Cry 4 you could explain because it's new and it's shiny, but a 2006 port that ran just fine on the 360? Cop-outs aren't fun. Neither's not making this kind of thing optional. More »

Normally this would be the part where I ask you how you're all enjoying your PS3 demo of Lost Planet, but hey, not many of you were, and that's the whole point of this post. No sooner had the multiplayer demo launched on the PlayStation Store last week than complaints started coming in from users unable to connect to lobbies and get multiplayer games going. Obviously these problems were widespread enough for Capcom to pull the demo entirely, and even if you have got the game working, sorry, the servers are down too until a new version of the demo's released. Not the best of news for Capcom, then, but at least they seem to be able to see the funny side of things. More »

Capcom's Lost Planet Colonies, trademarked by the publisher last Spring, has just been rated by the ESRB with a T rating for the Xbox 360 and PC. That's right, PlayStation 3 owners, you may have to settle for the port of the former 360 exclusive for the time being. Even though Capcom has made no definitive announcements about a follow up to the original Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, execs have said "there will be more on Lost Planet for sure." More »

There's been plenty of side-by-side comparisons of the Lost Planet screens for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, but not a whole lot of high-def video to actually see stuff in motion. This Japanese trailer for the PS3 version of the game, while packed with tons of cut scenes, at least gives us a glimpse of this version in motion. More »

Over at Videogamer.com, they've taken the PS3 Lost Planet screens Capcom released late last year and has put them together for a head to head comparison against screens form the Xbox 360 version to see which comes out on top. Personally I preferred system comparison shots back when it was Atari 2600 versus Colecovision, when the differences were a lot less subtle. Still, there are marked differences between the two, with the 360 coming out on tops in the motion blur and lighting departments, while the PS3 version takes top honors in the "being on the PS3" category. More »

Sure, everyone is hanging on the edge of their seats for the latest Street Fighter movie casting news, but where's the GI Joe love? Look no further than the SF company itself, Capcom, who in a recent blog post revealed that Korean-born Japanese TV star Byun-hung Lee would be playing Cobra ninja Storm Shadow in the upcoming live action film, opposite Ray Park's Snake Eyes. Lee is a familiar face to Lost Planet fans, as said face was the model for the snow pirate mech pilot. He has also starred in various films, including Joint Security Area - one of the top grossing Korean films of all time - and the upcoming I Come With The Rain, starring alongside Josh Hartnett and Casey Jones. An interesting choice of actor, though I just can't see him in the role. Get it? Ninja humor. Just laugh. They're watching. More »

Just a quick note to our lovely readers (mostly the fanboy segment) after I posted this bad PlayStation 3 screenshot from Lost Planet yesterday. When we complain about bad ports—something notoriously affiliated with the PS3—why would that mean we're coming down hard on the PS3? On the contrary, because we believe the PS3 is difficult to program for but plenty powerful, we (but mostly I) hate to see bad versions of games come to the system. It screws PS3 owners who are paying full retail price for a game that's often already had a price drop on other systems. More »

There was enough Capcom news to fill a megaton sized shipping crate, including the announcement of Street Fighter IV, Bionic Commando and a Wii port of Okami. GameTrailers has a handy wrap up on everything that went down during the company's London Gamers Day, including an update on when we can expect more on Resident Evil 5. More »
