We got to check out a snippet of the upcoming Kirby DS game, Kirby Mass Attack while walking the Nintendo booth today. As you'll see in the video, many of the game's mechanics eluded me. Basically, there are a whole multitude of little Kirbys grouped together, and you lead them around using the stylus. On occasion, you can use the Kirbys the knock down a tree or clobber somebody. Still the game's art style is very nice. Very "Kirby", if I do say so myself. More »

One might think that HAL Laboratory's puffy pink protagonist Kirby has not a care in the world, that his disposition, due to his pinkness, would be beatific. Not so, according to virtually every video game box art appearance Kirby has made for the better part of the past decade. After Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the spherical mascot went from tickled pink to pissed. The transformations from pleased as punch to enraged were most noticeable in Kirby's journeys to America, going from happy go lucky to in a lather in games like Kirby Squeak Squad. It's Monday morning and I am typing to you live from Seattle, where the constant wetness makes it a perfect day to stay inside and screw around with the Wii Virtual Console. This week's offerings are actually three different shades of awesome. First comes pink-tinted awesome in the form of Kirby's Dream Course (SNES, 800 Points), which is one of the "Hey, he's a ball..." series of Kirby games. This time around he's a golf ball and you get to beat him with a stick until he goes into a hole. Awesome. Then comes Devil's Crush (TGFX16, 600 Points), which is the more Satanic version of the Alien Crush pinball game for the TurboGrafx. As I have stated previously, video game pinball is delicious. Finally we have Shining Force (Genesis, 800 Points), the second game in one of the most enduring and varied RPG series of all time, which Sega has only just recently gotten around to screwing up. Definitely three different flavors of awesome this week, whether you like to whack things with flippers, beat things with sticks, or carefully plan out your beating things with sticks. Enjoy! More »

Considering I have a quilt and an embroidery project that have been sitting around waiting to be finished for a couple of years at this point, it always amazes me when people take on crafting projects that wind up being a lot harder than anticipated ... and actually finish them!
