Let's Look At Each Console's Attach Rates, Shall We?

A console's attach rate - or tie rate, whatever you want to call it - is an interesting statistic. It basically shows how many games, on average, are owned by each person that owns a particular console. That data can be interpreted any number of ways, but from where I'm sitting, it generally shows how much you're getting out of your console. If you're buying a ton of games, you're getting good use out of it. If you're not, it's probably sitting in a closet somewhere, since you're not buying any games for it. Anyway, let's take a look! Above is a chart, compiled by Gamasutra, showing not only each console's attach/tie rate, but also the break-down between first-party and third-party releases. More »

LOTRO: Mines of Moria, New Screens Explore Khazadum

Lord of the Rings Online fans rejoice! Your first expansion - Mines of Moria - is coming November 18th. Last time we took a look at it, we flew through the darkest depths of Durin's Way. This time, these new screens give us a glimpse of the all famous Khazadum and Central Levels. Both of these areas are brand new and will give your dwarf plenty of space to duke it out with goblins. Me? I think I'm more of an elf person myself. More »

Company Of Heroes Expansion: Some Details

Earlier this week, THQ got around to formally announcing the long-known-about Company of Heroes expansion pack, Tales of Valor. Problem is, that's about all they announced. No details. Well, Relic have since spoken with Edge, and now, we have details. Seems the game will come with three "mini campaigns", which instead of being centred around a single, long story like the existing campaigns, will be shorter affairs. One of those three will revolve around the exploits of SS Panzer commander Michael Wittmann, who at the Battle of Villers-Bocage destroyed over 20 British vehicles in only 15 minutes. More »

Mirror's Edge "Wanted" Posters Pop Up At Universities

Electronic Arts is giving Mirror's Edge viral marketing the old college try, with "wanted" posters for the game's protagonist Faith popping up at at least one college campus, the University of Southern California. Yes, we've definitely seen this tactic before — and arguably done a little better — but we can't fault EA for trying to turn some of that student cash earmarked for ramen and Milwaukee's Best into Mirror's Edge spend. Want to stealth market for EA yourself? Scans of the poster are at the source. More »

    PlayStation Store Update: Metal Gear?!

Konami gets around to giving PlayStation 3 owners their Metal Gear Solid 4 demo, just in time for the holiday consideration season. It leads a week light on playable goods, but heavy on decent freebies, as the first of the LittleBigPlanet downloadable offerings hit the PlayStation Store. If you really feel the need to spend, the "Sexy Ninja Girls" theme at just $1.49 will probably do the trick. The full list of digital goodies is after this. More »

PlayStation 3 Sales Rebound In Japan, DSi Tops Charts

The PlayStation 3 hasn't had a good couple of weeks, with sales bottoming out at just 3,931 according to Media Create. Fortunately for Sony, the PS3's fortunes have changed in a major way with the introduction of a new 80GB model and bundles featuring LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III, with a ten times increase week to week. GTA IV's stellar sales certainly didn't hurt. More »

You Got Your Master Chief In My Spore!

It may not be as mindblowingly impressive as the amazing StarCraft recreation done in Spore, and the shine of Spore creature creations may have started to dull to the more jaded of us, but this collection of Halo universe heroes, beasts and vehicles, built in Maxis' sim-everything game is still pretty darn neat. Metal Gear Solid 4 Moves Over 4 Million, Konami Makes $1.5 Billion

Kojima Productions stealth action game is still buttering the bread at Konami. During the company's first half — ignore those "Q2"s, that's all April to September stuff — gamers worldwide snatched up over 4 million copies of Metal Gear Solid 4, with total Metal Gear series sales amounting to 4.33 million. That's more than a third of the Konami's total game sales for the six month period, with the games division pulling in about $950 million (USD) in revenue. Yeah, you should definitely expect a Metal Gear Solid 5. More »

    Frankenreview: Valkyria Chronicles

Sega drove a sketchy tank onto the rather barren field of PlayStation 3 RPGs with Valkyria Chronicles, the turn-based strategy affair that's been turning heads ever since the Japanese debut trailer hit the web last year. With the extremely attractive CANVAS graphics engine giving the game it's distinctive look and the team behind Sakura Wars and Skies of Arcadia responsible for the gameplay, PlayStation 3 JRPG fans devoured every screenshot and gameplay video, eagerly awaiting the day the title would finally fall into their hands. Halo Wars LE Sweetened By Mythic Map Pack

Microsoft Game Studios and Ensemble Studios are on course to ship their strategy take on the Halo universe this February, and they're readying one hell of a Limited Collector's Edition for those willing to drop a little extra coin. $79.99 gets you the game, six leader cards, a Spirit of Fire patch, a Halo Wars: Genesis graphic novel, and the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack, which comes with “Assembly,” “Orbital” and “Sandbox”. One hell of a way to ensure your core audience stays intact in the face of wildly shifting genres, isn't it? More »

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Review: A Festival of Mayhem

Last year’s MotorStorm gave PlayStation 3 owners a novel concept, a game that added context and surroundings much more compelling than you usually get in pick-up-and-play racers. Half the fun was the exquisitely hallucinated reason for it all, that there could actually be a beyond-extreme rally “festival” held in Utah’s Monument Valley, sort of like Sturgis meets Burning Man with loads more violent collisions and fatal wrecks. And, one assumes, crazy monkey sex in everyone’s tents at night. More »
