
UK game retailer, GAME, recently acquired their competition, Gamestation, and their 217 stores in a new agreeement totalling 74 million . The two brands will remain separate entities, but GAME is hoping that some of that some of that hardcore gamer personality that Gamestation is known for will rub off on them, making them more popular mainstream. 300,000 out of the deal will be set aside to create more branches.
GAME chairman, Peter Lewis claimes that:
By investing in both brands we will further enhance the group's retail strategy while continuing to deliver and broaden our consumer reach.
Which I'm sure it is. But it oddly has tones of a speech I've heard before, and we all know how that turned out in the end.
