The location of the final and possibly best LittleBigPlanet pre-order item has been revealed! The official LPB news site has announced that the Nariko SackGirl is an exclusive pre-order bonus from Best Buy stores in the U.S., meaning I might have to tuck away my pride and finally buy $5 of potential game from the retailer, though since Best Buy generally puts their pre-order bonus stuff inside the placeholder boxes on the shelves, it might mean I can snag that code along with the GameStop Kratos for an extra $5. More »

The creators of PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword won't be working on a sequel anytime soon, according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz. The UK dev has moved on, focusing on an original "triple-A blockbuster"concept that it plans to ship for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Since Sony owns the Heavenly Sword IP, they could hand it off to someone else, but Ninja Theory's going platform agnostic. But that's not all it's working on. More »

While flipping through the internet this morning, we came across this pretty decent fan-made Heavenly Sword sword. We were a little surprised to find that it was made an a school's shop class, though.
Instead of making some stupid cabinet or a DVD shelf like the rest of the class, I decided to make something a little more original...Ironical, I was the first one to get cut by my sword. I let a kid hold it and he got a little power hungry, started swinging it around and cut my in the arm. For a wooden sword, it sure cuts well.
Don't tell his teacher. Yes, we're sure there will be a Heavenly Sword 2. It's already written! Heck, developer Ninja Theory would like to make it into a trilogy. But first, it needs the opinions of regular folks. According to one Kotaku tipster, that's exactly what Ninja Theory is doing. Last night, a focus group was apparently held by these people in Chicago. Writes the tipster:

Guess what? When game developers finish games, they start on new games! And now that Heavenly Sword is already out the door, developer Ninja Theory is, that's right, working on another game. The developer's site has concept background images of its next title. We're not sure if it's another Heavenly Sword title or something else entirely. While this has nothing to do with a larger hard drive, Sony will be offering a new bundle in Australia that includes a 40GB PS3, second Sixaxis controller and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or NBA 08 all for $799.95. Wow, that's looking a LOT better than the original $1000 PS3 launch price that Luke had to put up with. More »

You've seen our picks, maybe noticed what Time, Maxim and others had to say about gaming in 2007, but Playboy's choices are finally in. They not only went safe, picking Bioshock as their game of the year, but went with their demographic, opting to choose the 2007 game with the "Best Jiggle Factor." It might not have been my choice, as I like my gaming girls covered in slime, but I suppose Heavenly Sword deserved to walk away with some sort of accolade this year. Ninja Gaiden Sigma oversight aside, it's a fairly solid list. More »

Comparisons between Heavenly Sword and God of War are inevitable considering the similar control scheme, but apparently the creators of HS haven't shied away from giving props (literally) to their obvious inspiration. PlayStation Underground forum poster KiNGoFClubs discovered this little homage to Kratos buried with in the game. During one of Kai's missions, Kratos' GOW2 armor and Blades of Chaos can be spotted hanging on a gate in a castle courtyard. You got to hand it to the designers, if you're going to take inspiration from another game, at least be cool enough to own up to it. You can check out more screen caps here on the PlayStation forums. More »

Voting time! We've got ten (count 'em, ten) finalists in our use-red-win-Heavenly Sword contest. Tons of entries poured in for this, and we had a bastard of a time picking these finalists. All the entries were fab — much love and respect to all who entered. So, without adieu, the best of the best! It's up to you, Kotakuland to pick the winner, which will be announced on Monday. You may vote once. Make sure to write down the finalist's number that you've selected. And remember, those who slip into little Mr. (or Ms.) Critic territory will feel the brunt end of the banhammer. I love letter openers, especially game-themed ones... and now I have three. A King Arthur sword, a Link sword in stone and this very nifty Heavenly Sword sword on a nice stand. Lair took a really bad beating last week, breaking the hearts of PS3 fanboys around the world. But it would be OK because there was another Chosen One that Sony had been flaunting for months: Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword. We nicknamed it Goddess of War during E306, but even with the its chainsword-driven action, the game seems to have blossomed into its own entity at this point—for the good or the bad. More »

No. That is not blood. We hope. Reader Dustin not only wrote "Kotaku" in ketchup (lots of red!), but also wore a red striped shirt (extra red). We've got one copy of Heavenly Sword with fiery sword-swinger Nariko to give away. But, we're not just going to give it away. You've got to win it! Here's the contest: Red. Lots and lots of red. Take a picture with as many red things as you can squeeze in. Remember, be creative. Don't be afraid to leave your house to take the pics! It doesn't have to be just a bunch of products. Just think red! Because the most interesting/creative ones will be selected by the mean Kotaku staff as finalists. The best one will then be selected by Kotakuland. Deadlines for entries is next Thursday at midnight EST. Send entries to kotakucontestATgmail.com and be sure to include a "Kotaku" sign in your picture. You need a Kotaku sign. Good luck! More »

This week has a nice choice of titles spread out over various systems (sans the PSP). I'm trying to get to Heavenly Sword tonight so I can see for myself what it's going to be like and I am anxious to check out Jam Sessions and Drawn to Life for the DS. I've avoided Oblivion for a while just because I'm afraid of getting sucked in, but the inclusion of all the expansions on one disc is intriguing.

Sure, we know that Heavenly Sword packs 10GB of sound space on a Blu-ray disc, but here's more info about that — namely, the music! How big is Heavenly Sword? No idea, but the game's audio, from sound effects to music to cutscene dialog amounts to a whopping 10 GB of data. With three and a half hours of music and 4500 lines of voice over work, in eleven languages, it apparently starts to add up. The Ninja Theory and SCEE Cambridge audio teams explain in a new Develop tutorial just how they went about packing the PLAYSTATION 3 game with that much audio. More »

By bringing Sméagol and Gollum to live in Lord of the Rings, actor Andy Serkis set off a hailstorm of controversy. His performance was so good that many Academy members felt he should be nominated for an Oscar (the Academy felt otherwise). He is able to inject great humanity into his motion capture work. Heavenly Sword marks the first time that Serkis has done motion-capture for a game. What's the difference between doing motion-capture and doing traditional acting? <a href="http://kotaku.com/288650/acting-and-game-motion+capture-same" title="Click here to read more about Acting and Game Motion-Capture? Beside booze and boob physics, Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki doesn't like much of anything! Tekken he hates so hard. And the upcoming PS3 title Heavenly Sword? Meh! With the news that Heavenly Sword will be hitting shelves September 12, PS3 owners have reason to rejoice. Having just purchased a PS3 myself yesterday (more on that later), I downloaded the demo for HS and it looks and feels absolutely amazing. The controls feel very God of War-ish and the visuals are beautiful. And of course, Nariko and her moves are hot, hot, hot. I mean come on, even I think she's hot so that's really saying something. More »

PS3 title Heavenly Sword wasn't always a PLAYSTATION 3 game. Back in 2003, a "concept trailer" for the game appeared, and the game was apparently destined for the Xbox. The game's developer, then known as Just Add Monsters, made one game for Microsoft and then went bust. By 2004, GameSpot reporting that the game was in development for "next-generation consoles," while the company said it was looking for publishers. A year later, the game was a PS3 exclusive. There you have it!

Talk about great timing. I just received a much more robust demo of Heavenly Sword in the mail. The demo that hit the PSN yesterday was two levels of chapter two. The disc I just received has all ten levels of chapter two, or about one and a half hours of gameplay. I'll try to play through all or at least a big chunk of the game while streaming with our new Justin TV live video rig. The quality is not high at all, so don't expect to walk away from watching this with any sense of the graphics... or maybe even the game. :) More »
