New DMC4 Screens Reveal New Boss

Famitsu has posted some new screens for the upcoming Devil May Cry 4 that reveal a new boss character. We're not sure what his name is, but he's really, really large and looks to be made of some kind of stone. Some of the screenshots seem extremely reminiscent of the Colossus of Rhodes battle in God of War 2. However, whether the actual gameplay of the battle is the same remains to be seen. I have to say I'm really digging Dante's suitcase cum automatic weapon. I really need to get one of those, it would come in quite handy for clearing the way at crowded conventions. More »

Gods of Game: Totilo V. N'Gai

It is, I would think, no big secret that MTV's Stephen Totilo and Newsweek's N'Gai Croal are two of my favorite gaming writers. (Clive Thompson would be the third, in my trinity of game writers)So N'Gai's latest feature over on his Newsweek blog is for me, quite a thing to behold. In Vs. Mode Totilo and N'Gai take one another to task over their feelings on God of War 2.I'll summarize, poorly, their takes on the game here, but you really, really owe it to yourself to go over there and read the whole thing because it's the sort of game critiquing that you will almost never find.Totilo comes down on the side of liking God of War 2 but not really being blown away with it. It is a marvel of game creation, he argues, but it's also very much more of the same. And not just because it's a sequel that uses some of the same sorts of setting and themes, but because the game, like its predecessor, uses "level design to define a character's personality", the personalilty of Kratos. And the sequel relies heavily on this same sort of trick. More »

While the clip is a little fuzzy, it does give us another look at some of the gameplay for the upcoming God of War 2. Although this gameplay trailer for God of War 2 yet again does not feature the most important aspect of the Kratos experience — the ability to rhythmically make love to two Greek minxes as once — it does show a lot of impressive stuff like Kratos sawing the wings off of Gryphons while he's riding them thousands of miles in the sky, some typical ginsu action and the mysterious grappling points we were wondering about, which are a lot less interesting than our imagination feverishly made them out to be. Although ignoring the question that's on every gamer's minds, "How many nubile Greek prostitutes will Kratos be able to have sex with at once?" it does go into the details of Kratos' new moves, Hades' revised bestiary and the fluidity of the control scheme. God of War 2 is real. A Flickr user put up some digital camera shots of the new issue of Game Informer with God of War 2: Divine Retribution on the cover. There's a mini-outcry occuring on the Internet because the game is coming out for the PlayStation 2 instead of the PlayStation 3. Games will still be coming out on the PS2 for a while yet, folks so get used to it. More »
