Early Sega Genesis adopters remember Sega's Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse as one of the system's initial highlights, a platformer bursting with charm and gorgeous level design. So Disney trademarking Castle of Illusion more than 20 years later is certainly cause of cautious excitement. More »

We started to see limited edition consoles pop up regularly in the late 1990s. They're of course commonplace now. In the early 90s and before, though, they weren't really around, which is where Ricepuppet's console customisation service comes in handy. More »

The Smithsonian American Art Museum revealed the winners of its public vote to decide what games will be featured in their exhibit, The Art of Video Games, today. The exhibit creates a visual history of the evolution of gaming from its humble beginnings through the present. The vote, which took place between February and April, helped to pick the majority of the exhibit, with only a few iconic selections guaranteed entry. More »

One of the great things about the Genesis (or Mega Drive, depending on where you're from) is the fact that, unlike most other major consoles, Sega licensed out its technology, meaning a range of companies could , along with Sega itself, come up with their own wacky versions of the console. More »

Streets of Rage Remake, the exhaustive, fan-made homage to the classic Sega Genesis beat 'em up series, looks to have finally gotten the attention of Sega. Blockbuster's second Video Game Championship contest, for SNES and Genesis, ran nationwide in 1995. Stores had to destroy the cartridges after the contest. Someone made 100 reproductions to help completionists fill a gap in their collect.
