Microsoft Weighs In On PS3 Price Drop

microsoft_1978.jpgFollowing the PLAYSTATION 3 price shuffle—dropping the 60GB SKU to $499 and adding an 80GB plus Motorstorm version at $599—it was inevitable that Microsoft would at some point think about Sony's efforts to attract the more budget conscious buyer. So what does Microsoft think? IGN got in touch with an unnamed Microsoft rep to learn what they had to say about what they think about what Sony did.

Microsoft were reportedly "not surprised by Sony's reaction to the market" and make none-too-subtle hints about playing the wait and see game on a future Xbox 360 price drop. MS also wanted to make sure the company got this stinging analysis of the price shift plan.

We'll see if it makes a difference. It's interesting to note that they've significantly dropped their price in the first eight months while Xbox 360 has continued to sell well at our launch price for more than a year and a half. We're right where we want to be right now — it's all about choice and bringing the best games and entertainment to homes around the world.

That almost reads like Microsoft isn't planning a 360 price drop in the very near future. It also reads like whomever this MS rep is, he or she is made up of one part press release and one part pure Sony hate.
