This is kinda cool. Square Enix are looking for a vocalist to handle singing duties on Final Fantasy IV's signature "Theme of Love" track, which will then make its way onto the Western release (well, DS re-release) of the game. Any vocalist. Even you. Or me.
They're holding what amounts to an open-mic contest, and to be eligible the only condition you need to meet is that you don't already have a recording contract. Easy!
Hit up the (Japanese) Square Enix site below for more details. Oh, sorry, guess that makes two conditions to meet, the other being you can read Japanese.

Brilliant, they want a Western Voice, but still the site is in Japanese... should limit the submissions I suppose.

You know, aside from the over-zealous grammar nazi attacks, it could very easily be a sly reference to the tradition of Final Fantasy games containing a character called Cid.....

In another article, they misspell "Zelda" as "Celda". Come on, guys, that's an easy one.
I'm the farthest thing from a spelling nazi out there (just look up some of my previous posts) but as a fan of etymology this one just grates:

@banditos: "Celda" is a reference to that game's cell-shaded art-style. Cell-shaded + Zelda = Celda. Not a misspelling.

I hate when I read comments on a post, only to find out that 90% of them are to complain about grammar. Seriously, *who freaking cares?* You obviously knew what he meant. You just sound like a pretentious jackass whenever you correct grammar in a post. Get over yourselves. Or go start your own damn blog (which will of course, be errorless).
As for the topic on hand... I really think it's kind of silly that this is only open for people who speak Japanese. Like someone said above, it will really limit entries. But oh well, I think it's a cool idea none the less.
I'm glad that I haven't totally lost my college Japanese skills yet...this is seriously the opportunity of a lifetime! I'm hoping that by June 1st maybe they'll post a little more information (like where the hell to send your audition materials) but in any case, I'm totally going for it. Anyone else on board?
I'm hoping that there aren't *too* many other music majors that can speak Japanese AND like video games out there...>_<
