Wise Words On The Japanese XBox 360 Launch Day

See how different the approach is? Here speaketh Yoshihiro Maruyama, Microsoft's General Manager of the XBox Div in Japan:

"I often refer to myself as the manager of a theater," he says. "If I want a big audience to come I don't talk about how great the lighting system is or the sound system. Who cares? People come to watch the play. There are great titles coming out for the 360...and people buy the product based on the experience they can enjoy."

I think it's fair to sum up the US's approach as heavily hardware and HD focused; Japan is, as ever, all about the gameplay. Europe is deeply confused at the moment, what with Amazon not delivering before Xmas, and HD tellies rare as hen's teeth anyway ("what's wrong with PAL?"). The games arrived weeks ago - but no boxen.

Maybe I should get a Japanese import, it'd probably get here quicker?!
