According to a reader, Bill Gates just said that the Xbox 360 will be getting an external HD-DVD drive this year.

More just in, Microsoft has confirmed the announcement. The HD-DVD drive will indeed be external and available later this year. The friendly neighborhood Msoft peeps say they only word for HD DVD support so far is movies. Nothing has been announced for games. I'm thinking there won't be game support because that would further fractionalize (I think I just made that word up) the 360 market, what with the harddrive haves and have nots.
