While crazy PS3 pricing and crazier Sony execs have lead to gloomy forecasting, the PlayStation 2 is still a bright spot for the beleaguered company and is slaying the next-gen competition. Since the 360 launched, Microsoft has been moving 246,000 new consoles on average, compared with Sony's 473,000 units. Certainly 360 shortages might have accounted for the deficit; however, last month, the 360's post E3 sales dipped, and the PS2 came up on top.
While there is a significant price difference between the machines (PS2's US $129 pricetag vs. Xbox 360 Core's US $299 one) and the consoles are at different life cycle points, this data does prove that loads of people are still buying the PlayStation 2. My question: doesn't everyone already own a PS2?
