I've posted videos of my son playing race games using the Wii Remote and the Sixaxis so I thought it was only fair to post one of him playing Project Gotham Racing 3 using the Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel. Tristan says this is his favorite controller. Of course he said the other two were his favorites too at the time.

Crecente your son was cute right up until the one minute mark, when he tried to SHAME YOU ON CAMERA!
This is the same child whose mates broke your Wii wrist strap. I sure hope he was forced to take a timeout away from the consoles.
Also, not to be off-topic on a gaming culture blog, but do you beat your child? I was just wondering.
We need to get a Kotaku T-Shirt that says in quotes "Because it's harder"...that'd be awesome :) I have to say that this wireless steering wheel setup for the Xbox360 looks amazing! I bet it doesn't come cheap though ^_^ I say in a couple of years we make Tristan a kotaku-journalist. I think he's bound to become one anyhow =)
Great post Crecent, as always!
My friend said that your son is so cute she'd like to put him on a keychain. Not sure what you make of that...
Sorry I meant "Crecente" not "Crecent". I take it that you say "Sucker" a lot around the house? haha
I want free accessories from Microsoft too.
Man, your kid is some kind of whiz at mastering controllers, huh?
Must run in the family.
Worst.. Post.. ...
Kotaku just seems to be "look at my baby play with my neat free stuff" lately. and japanese launch stories. Advertisers, ensure you get a better rate for next time. Viewership is dropping!
That's cute and all, but how does it stack up to the Driving force Pro Brian? We want a professional opinion!
Why do you have to say alrighty?
@goomba (Bugs bunny says Sucker ALL the time) maybe that's it..
lol, I'd totally buy a t-shirt that said something like, "I bought X because Tristan said it was the best (X subject to change upon whim)."
That's true Arvash :) I hadn't thought about Bugs Bunny.... I still find it funny. "Sucker" haha. I disagree with hennifer though, I think Kotaku has a LOT of readership. These kinds of posts are welcome ... it's what gives Kotaku its own feel and original environment. It's not like all the posts are like this. I for one found the Japanese launch stories entirely fascinating as well ^_^
That is really cute. Your son made me want to play Excite Truck w/the last video you posted. However after seeing both of these videos, it seems that your son's favorite controller is always the one he's using at the time. Maybe he knows that saying about "...love the one you're with."
Please adopt me ...
Maybe it's because PGR3 kicks some major ass.
Sure the controllers might do something, but has anyone ever wondered if it was the games? I mean wasn't it, Excite Truck v. Motorstorm V. PGR3? Sounds like different games right there.
That was sweet :)
The wireless wheel is tempting... but then I'm reminded of my hulking great Logitech PS2 wheel that only got used very rarely for Gran Turismo. Owning more than one steering wheel... do I really want to be that guy?
PS although I can't see the screen Crecente, your kid drives like an idiot! Sort it out :) :)
hENNIFER: "Advertisers, ensure you get a better rate for next time. Viewership is dropping!"
You might want to review what the word "dropping" means.
While it's less likely to suffer the fate of the Wii, it could certainly do more harm in the hands of an angry Tristan.
Hopefully he hasn't picked up the bad habits of his father (or his uncle).
Sucker!
Your son should either be a politician or a corporate yes-man. Every controller is the best until he gets the next one, but when it comes to the old he likes those too. Wait, better idea! motivational speaker!
I love the wireless wheel, even if when I took some time to get used to it... a full hour. But NFS: Carbon is so much fun with it, now I´m waiting for PGR4 and Forza 2 to come.
Crecente, you´re like a videogame Jean Piaget, hehe...
Not only can your son master controllers, but he can detect cheesyness too... haha
Call me ignorant, but why is there a wire coming out of that "wireless" wheel?
The pedals are connected to the wheel via a wire. And if you want force feedback it has to be plugged into the wall.
I just bought the wireless wheel, and I have to say, I'm about as impressed with it as he is. And I'm not a wheel-controller-kind-of-guy. Really, really well built. Feels good.
I don't drive (never felt the need to in London) but it is amazing how it's able to convey the sense of grip on the road; the force feedback on the wheel is required, whereas I've always pretty much felt that it was optional on everything else I've ever played.
Just a really quality product. Color me impressed.
hENNIFER was burned by those Kotaku.com visitor statistics for MASSIVE DAMAGE (yes, it's oh so very old, but I could not help myself.)
That wheel looks really fun to use, and purty also, but at $150 that is just too high for me. That is 3/5's of a Wii, and considering that I'm not too big on racing games, would mean it's not worth it. Still very nice though.
I love these posts. My son is barely sitting up and Jr. Pirate Crecente age is going to be a kick ass time.
lol he said "funner" that isnt a real word. But yeah, cute kid.
Its a great video because of the music by Dark New Day!!!
My name is Tristan also. Nice to see my name is getting more common. I don't hear of many people with my name.
yeah, tshirts writing "funner and harder" would sell great :D
Joking aside i like those videos, few real comparison value to em but yup, cute and entertaining :)
hey! you sucker...j/k...thats cool tho. i wish i culd tape my parents playing a console. (sadly i have no "next gen" consle)
"Why do you have to say 'alright'? Why do you have to say it?"
"I think those pedals are giving you a hard time."
"Sucka!!!1"
Nice. The kid is headed for great things.
kiigan - one thing that the Logitech PS2 wheel has is that you can connect it to a PC and play stuff on that, complete with force feedback. Until the 360 wireless receiver for the PC comes out, I don't know if this will be similarly cross compatible. As it is now, it's too expensive as a one trick pony, unless you can tell me how to somehow play Rainbow Six Vegas with it.
Will we see Tristan in the launch of the Twelveaxis and the PS4, too?
From the sound of it, he's not doing so great.
Still cute as ever though.
Why don't you buy him a little bike? Don't let him near those video games at that age, he might end up blogging about VG like his dad..
Haha "Because it's harder" should totally be Kotaku's slogan...
That was funny. He made me want to play Excite Truck with the last video. However it does seem that he pretty much prefers whichever controller he is using at the time. I'm fairly certain if you stuck an atari stick in his hand and had him play pong, the basic joystick would be his favorite.
what the hell do you get this kid for xmas? He's got everything before it's out!
"how to drive for the xbox360, nintendo wii, and ps3, it really teaches you how to drive!"
Well....your kid would want that if it ever came out. Then he'd be all "please dad, i need to learn, then all..."stupid goverment, wont gimme my licence at the age of 9..."
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ALRIGHTY DAD? I can see 30 year old Tristan one day.
Hilarious how this is now his favorite. Have him play the other ones AGAIN and ask. It'd be interesting to see if the poster's philosophy of current being played is always the favorite.
Shame him on camera? b the nature of poetic Justice's comment, I sure hope that was sarcasm :p
hENNIFER - if ya don't like it, don't read it? :) the 'look at my baby' stuff is actually quite interesting. I have a friend with a child about that age and it's good to know how easily they might should beable to pick up the controls. If my friend starts talking about purchasing a system like that for christmas and intendeing to get one of the controlers--and he IS a gamer and his little one has shown interest in playing too--I can offer him, in this case, at least a bit of advice one way or another as 99% of gaming sites don't offer "your kid and your gaming system" advice.. jsut you and your system.
as for japanese lauch.. gee golly, could that be because that it's decently big news at the moment? if you have any other advice for good stories, why don't you submit them? or better: start a blog of your own.
God damn it, Crecente.
