Happy National Video Games Day! I know you've all been eagerly awaiting this day, reserving a day off of work or school to spend a lazy afternoon participating in our favorite hobby. I am sure you've got some massive parties planned, so be sure to send us photos of how you celebrate the holiday with your friends and loved ones! Yeah, we had no idea either, but Holiday Insights and American Greetings indicate that September 12th is NVGD. You'd think someone would have mentioned it to us.
Celebrate National Video Games Day by playing video games. If you are off from school (or if you are a big kid off from work), make this a marathon day for video games. Better still, invite a few friends and hold a competition. Just make certain that you have enough controllers. That's the blurb from Holiday Insights, which goes on to state that they have no record of the origin of the holiday or that indeed it even exists. Whatever. American Greetings needs gamer money too you know.

Meh. I'll buy a card for this holiday, but not that Mother's Day/Father's Day crap. Hallmark totally made those up.
Do I get some kind of day off of some sort?
I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't grease some palms to get NVGD moved to September 25...
And here I am sitting at work like a sucker.
Boo, I totally would have taken the day off if I had known. :(
News to me!
*Leaves work to play Call of Duty 4 beta the remainder of the day*
NVGD!?! WTF?!
ok....wake me up when its national straight porn day....or national topless day....
nothing to see here...
Excellent, I passed Stranglehold and am about to beat MOH:A tonight. On the last stage and its fucking insane.
Finally.. a religious holiday for me!
I'm glad Holiday inc. finally made a holiday for us.
Let us have a moment of silence for those who got pwned on NVGD last year.
Um. When did this happen? D:
Happy Game Day! woooooo
WOOHOO... LET'S CELEBRATE!
I'm getting drunk!
Holy schnitzel! What have I been doing sleeping until 1:30 pm!? I've got videogames to play and little time to do it! And you can bet you're bottom dollar I'm not going to my only class of the day. Heck, I'm going to just go ahead and call it International Video Game Week and see what happens with my life.
Damn i have to work all day. Wish i had know about it earlier i would've taken the day off to celebrate this wonderful holiday. It would've been the perfect time to finally try out Sin and Punishment. :(
*Looks at homework*
*Looks at Bioshock and Warhawk*
The day has spoken! Let the gaming commence!
National Video Game Day?
I could've sworn it was National Disparage Tolkein Day! <_<
Well, I just got home from vacation, completed the download for Warhawk, and thought I'd get in on some much delayed gameplay of the game I originally wanted the PS3 for.
But, when I got home, I found out my refrigerator circuit board and processor died, and leaving the inside of said fridge about as cold as a slightly brisk late summer day.
So, my national gaming day will be spent not using an AA cannon to blow enemies out of the sky, but instead shopping around for a new refrigerator for a reasonable price, shopping for groceries to replace what was lost, and alternating putting the milk into and out of my chest freezer to keep it cold, but not frozen.
Yeah, fun time. Happy gamer day to me.
Uwe Boll just bought the movie rights to today.
Ok, what do we need to do to make this a national day off holiday?
Is Warhawk really all the rave I have heard? I bought a PS3 a few weeks ago but have yet to buy any games for it (I've setup linux on it and played PS2 games). If it really rocks, I'll buy it tonight - I wish there was a demo.
Well I got outta school a few hours ago, already the afternoon though. Guess I'll celebrate by powering through Ninja Gaiden Sigma...it's past it's return date anyway >.<
This is nice and all, but only eCards?
Oh well. I guess today's a day of PSU, or perhaps I might get a Smash Bros. Melee thing together in my hall.
As far as I'm concerned this holiday will be observed Monday. Taking a day off for TF2, no I'm not kidding.
@jacksinn:
It is great, and one of the best reasons to own a PS3 right now.
I know, it sounds weird to say that about a downloadable game. I too am used to XBL's rather... Let's say "retro" downloadable selections. Not something to pay full price for, or something to consider buying a console over.
But the game is awesome. Even in the crash-prone beta, it was easily one of the best action games I've played in a while.
It may be a bit brainless (why are these two factions fighting again?) but MAN, when you get a 32 man server going in a Zone match, I dare you not to fall in love with this game.
Wait, there's a holiday for gaming? o.O Since when?!
G-R-E-A-T. Just Great. Today, September 12, I had to send my Wii for repair, along with my copy of Metroid Prime 3 and I discovered (after I ripped off the wrapper) that Bioshock on the PC requires Internet activation (yeah, it does say it on the package: in tiny, miniscule type) and I currently don't have any Internet connection at home... man, I just hope my DSLite can save the day, otherwise this will be the worst first "Video Game Day" ever.
Why does the idea of a national gaming holiday in America sound odd to me? Is it because the mentality of it being "for kids" or the fact that people never take gaming seriously? And who made this day a holiday for gaming? I sure as hell didn't, it'd be on the weekend on sunday if it were any real holiday.
@PapaBear434: About bloody time you started posting again!
on a side note....
Sept 18th is "Talk Like A Pirate Day"
Sept 28th is "Ask A Stupid Question Day"
Needs a Jack Thompson look alike at the head of the parade.
National Video Games Day is every day.
But every day is Video Games Day!
So I was cursed to be a gaming nerd at birth. (25th birthday today)
but today is rosh hashanah eve...
@SwimOdin: Happy birthday!
I must have been psychic, I called in sick today and just rented a couple of games to check out... Plus, Tony Hawk demo.
Waaait a second...American Greetings? Wasn't that the company that forced Penny Arcade to remove the Strawberry Shortcake comic? Does anyone else find it ironic that they're trying to make money off of a group that they've alienated? And since when can you just make up a holiday? Can anyone, or do you need some kinda license?
Wait isn't this meant to be in January and it's called Winter-een-mas.
Wait isn't this meant to be in January and it's called Winter-een-mas.
BTW everyone digg this article.
@Tom90deg: WTF! THEY MAKE UP THE HOLIDAYS? well thank god for the good old legit holidays like Xmas and Sept. 25th Believe Day .. oh and Valentines Day.
**The_Inquisitor pours out a Bawls for all the noobs he has fragged.
@Phazon: I love Winter-een-mas! I never find people to celebrate it with though. Too bad I have so much work to do today. I can't just blow it off to play video games :P
Well, I had my video game day yesterday by beating Metal Gear Solid 3. I rented the game back in June '06 and figured I would complete it now... plus, didn't have to fight The End this time, which sucked. :-p
Well, also played some Bejeweled on XBLA yesterday. Good times.
Right before Rosh Hashana? Wow. This must be a busy time of year for Game Jew.
As for myself, I played Pokemon in my car on my lunch break, which I guess counts as properly observing my faith.
I'm Canadian, but will get stoned and game tonight out of respect for your traditions!
Wow, they pull ut out from the nothing...
I hope this is not CRTL+ALT+DEL Comic related to the Gaming religion...
@SAKY: negative! Talk Like a Pirate Day is sep. 19, not 18. i can't wait to log onto Puzzle Pirates in a week.. does it change to Puzzle Businessmen or something?
Ummm... yeah. I'd rather not have NVGD be on September 12th. Forget American Greetings, I'll make up my own NVGD, TYVM.
I work playing games, I guess that counts. :/
@Tom90deg: I propose gamers celebrate this new fabulous holiday by making our on cards traditions and such- while completely ignoring American Greetings' products. Friggin' leeches.
YES! It's my 21st birthday today!
Hah! I spend everyday playing (err... *cough*testing*cough*) games.
Happy National Video Games Day to all!
Oh, the irony. I finally got RROD today. God hates me.
Wait. Who told American Greetings they get to decide when we should celebrate our beloved video games? I say let those who actually PLAY video games decide what day of the year to skip school/work/both to give thanks to the machines that mean more to us than a bagful of puppies.
And who said it gets to be just one day?
Dang. So I celebrated without even knowing it. Went from being able to miss a wall in Metroid Prime to getting a lil' past the second real boss and that fun little countdown. ((Son of a bi-))
Wish it were two days ago.
WHY does it have to be the day after 9/11?
Fuck American Greetings, the only holidays I actually give a damn about are Anzac Day, New Year's, my birthday and Talk Like A Pirate Day.
All the rest are just another day off.
I break out all my ninja games for December 5th, Day of the Ninja.
Hoax. If this were really a holiday. Google would have a special graphic right now.
This sounds like a great excuse to go play Rune Factory. Bye everyone!
