We know the name, we know about the controller speaker, about the motion detection, about the pointer control, but apparently that's not enough. Now fans have latched onto a little flap on the petite Wii and have become convinced that it hides the secret to eternal life, or perhaps a 3D hologram projector. Another, just as credible idea, is that the flap covers up a slot where you can plug in DS games. What about, I don't know, a place to stick memory cards. Nintendo fans sure do love their conspiracies. —Brian Crecente

Its where the SD cards go. The upper flap houses the memory cards/GQ controllers.
Along similar lines I am totally obsessed with the flap on the front of the PS3. I know it must hide the various memory card slots on the higher end model but I have a desperate and unhealthy need to see it open...I feel dirty
I've seen articles full of wild speculation based on Nintendo's patent forms about a "system of 3D spacial recognition" or some-such. Obviously this is just a patent on how the Wiimote works, and not for technology that will allow the Wii to deliver "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi" messages.
exactly, that's just where the sd cards go. Man, when are people going to be satisfied? Online Nintendo gaming with better graphics and unique control. I'm there!
SD= :( Am I the only one who'd like to seethe Wii have a (even just 10GB) HD for my virtual console collection?
"Am I the only one who'd like to seethe Wii have a (even just 10GB) HD for my virtual console collection?" you can buy any external harddrive you want and connect it on the usb port of the Wii.
I've also heard that it might be a slot to recharge the controller (via a cable of some sort).
A few months back it was revealed that the Wii would also support USB drives, although this info was absent from E3 unfortunately. So SD cards aren't the only option. The controllers use AA batteries, so it's not likely they've got a charger in there (in case it tries to charge non-rechargable batteries). As well as SD cards, the DVD module should go in there.
