We've all heard the stories about people using Wii Sports as a workout tool, but personal trainer Zander Urquhart of Glasgow, Scotland is taking Wii fitness to new a new level. He has started offering classes that utilize the Wii as a workout machine. He started off by offering the classes fro kids, but then saw the popularity quickly spread to adults as well. Up to four people can participate in each class and according to "University Studies", players could burn up to 125 calories in a fifteen minute session. Mr. Urquhart is purportedly the first person to use the Wii in this manner, but I doubt he will be the last.
Nintendo should really consider marketing a "Wii Fitness" series. Wii Pilates, Wii Aerobics, Wii Weight Lifiting. It's a potential goldmine just waiting to be tapped into. What I'm waiting for though is Wii: Sweating To The Oldies featuring a Richard Simmons Mii that barks out orders at you while wearing Dolphin shorts that are two sizes too small.
A WII WORKOUT [Daily Record - Thanks, Craig]

Pedophile not included?
This is just... stupid? Sure, you might be able to burn a few calories with the Wii, but is it really worth it? Like think of the battery life, man!
richard simmons loves the wii remote
Wii Weight Lifting? How exactly would that work? lol
Something like Wii Health Pack, perhaps?

I expect Wii Health Pack to be North America's "Brain Age." But where is it? It has dropped off the recent lists of games coming out this year. Maybe Nintendo is waiting for Wii mania to die down a little before bring it out because Wii Health Pack will sell systems -- millions of them.
I use 20 lb. wrist weights every time I play Wii. I have lost 15 lbs in one month!
Can't wait for the Miyamoto game, sounds great
Those aren't even shorts, they're... they're just plain wrong! *shudders*
Dude, that is one badass fucking name.
Either that, or it's stupid. I'm not sure.
i think its a good idea because even though it might not seem like much of a workout to us healthy folk, it will be a godsend to the typically sedentary people that this is being targeted to
I don't see much point in these 'games'. Besides, the best they can go for is matching the sales of DDR games.
And if you ask me, I would rather go to the gym than monkeying around with a Wiimote. More effective that way, unless they sell these games with weights.
@krist: Most of these new forms of exercise that are game related are good. In the long term, it may not be a good form of weight loss for some people. However, this is an excellent way to encourage people who are not typically likely to attend a gym to get up and get active. Any form of exercise is better than none at all.
You know they are working on it(or a third party). It's just a matter of time before Wii Workouts are out, crushing the 360/PS3 singlehandedly overnight and sealing the Wii win.
Huh. I would've expected someone to post a link to this shirt already.
While I agree any exercise is better than none, there is no point to these exercises unless you are willing to keep the regiment for more than a couple of months. Which also happen to be the life cycles of most games- after you beat the game once or twice, it's done.
My point is that most people are far too lazy to keep any form of diet/exercise plan for more than three months, and most, if not all fitness/diet related products bank on this to make their profit.
So, take away the health factor, and you have a game which point is simply to make you move your ass. And not surprisingly, most of these games tend to lack creativity, or simply keep churning out numerous copies of the same game, i.e, DDR. If you played one DDR game you basically played them all.
Now are developers lazy or what?
(Of course, Wii is supposed to be for the general masses rather than gamers, but still, this genre of games existed before! I'm simply waiting for the SIXAXIS version of this game in couple of months)
@krist:
As someone who DOES keep regiments more than 3 months, I am glad this is being made.
"Look out sir, his ass is gonna BLOW!"
Good related image there, Flynn :)
Ninty needs to hop on to this. Aging brains aren't the only means for tapping into a new market. Now that there's a userbase, and parents are already familiar with playing Wii with their kids, a game which promotes excersize at a pace consistent with a new mom's busy schedule is one way to keep the Wii printing money.
"fro kids"? you kids with 'fros?
Sweating to the Oldies is classic, man. I'd pay good money for that as a Wii title.
@Krist: In addition to the other comments regarding this, a fitness game will not only get the usual target player to get off of his ass, but also give them an idea of what it feels like to exercise on a (hopefully) daily basis. If the results are good, and the feeling of short-to-long-term use is good, maybe they'll start thinking in terms of exercising as part of their regular activities.
my daily shit:
school= 8hrs
biking=2-3hrs
wii=at least 2 hrs
more biking=1-2 hrs
we can all smuggle in wii time to stay fit
