Cash-for-game-reviews sham Famitsu asked Japanese retailers (we assume places like Sofmap, Yodobashi Camera, Laox, etc.) how they thought the next generation of consoles would fare this holiday season. They asked about the ones that matter anyway—PlayStation 3 and Wii. Sure, they threw Microsoft a pity mention, but we can only assume that Takashi Sensui slipped 'em a 5000 yen note to get it.
Here are the questions, courtesy of GameFront.
1. Which next gen console will, in your opinion, sell better during Christmas?
88% - Wii
11% - PS32. With all hardware considered, which console do you expect to sell best after Christmas?
60.7% - Nintendo DS
32.8% - Wii
3.3% - PS2
1.6% - PS3
1.6% - Xbox 360
Well that seems to just about wrap it up for Sony! Let's hope they can get our of their lease and unload their office furniture on CraigsList.
Funny. Our scientific polling of some 40-odd TGS attendees and cosplayers says the split between those interested in the Wii and the PS3 is closer. But who cares about interest? Not retailers! Considering that Sony will only be shipping 100K units at launch and lord knows how many before we all celebrate Baby J's birthday, this seems fairly accurate.
