Europe: Buy Wii Points With Stars

Several of our European readers are pleased as punch at the email they are receiving from Nintendo UK, detailing the joining of the Wii Shop Channel with the Nintendo Stars Program, allowing customers to spend their stars on Wii points redeemable for virtual console goodies.

This means absolutely nothing to Americans, including myself, so I had to do a little research. The Stars Program rewards customers for purchasing first-party titles and hardware with points called stars, which can then be traded for backgrounds, stationary templates, and sometimes even things people actually want, like special game bundles. Apparently Japan has a similar program, but the products are generally 2000 times better. As Kotakuite Stewart puts it:

Loads of people I know have been saving their Stars for years, waiting for goodies equaling the Japanese Stars Catalogue, it looks like that day has arrived.

Check out the full email image after the jump.

Bah. Real consumers don't need stupid customer loyalty programs with awesome rewards. *whimper*

Thanks Stewart, Jake, and w1ll_haven!
