EA Talks Wii Pricing, PS3 Launch and Next Gen Graphics

Game site Gamasutra's Simon Carless got Electronic Arts on a conference call, breathed heavily into the receiver and found out these juicy bits:

  • Nintendo indicated that first party-titles for the Wii wouldn't go for more than US $49.99 at launch. It would be up to individual game publishers to decide pricing for their own titles.
  • There will be 4 or 5 EA launch titles for the PS3, including Madden, Need for Speed and Tiger Woods. The "launch period" is the 2006 calendar year. Heh.
  • Graphically, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are similar. Though, an exec pointed out that "here's a lot of horsepower in the PS3 that we're going to be able to unlock in years two, three, and four."
  • EA expects Sony to come up a little short and doubts the company will hit its 6 million unit target for consoles manufactured in the 2006-7 calendar year. "We expect that they will be challenged," said EA.
