    Korean PS3s Getting Video-On-Demand

Guess this explains why the Korean PS3's are going to come packing 80GB HDDs. The Korea Times is reporting that Sony are currently in negotations with several Korean telecom companies, with the goal of offering video-on-demand services to PS3 owners. SCE Korea spokesperson Park Seo-yun:

We are contacting some Korean firms in order to incorporate VOD applications into PlayStation 3 service line-up

Two of the local companies involved are Hanaro Telecom and KT. PS3 owners signing up to the provider's VOD services would have full access to their programming, without the need for additional gear like set-top boxes, though they would pay the same subscription fees as other customers.

Chances of this move being confined to the Korean peninsula? About the same as the 80GB model staying there. Slim-to-none. A betting man would expect more on this for Europe and the US come E3. Well, at least for the US.

PlayStation 3 Will Feature VOD Services [Korea Times, thanks Alex!]
