Friendly neighborhood Sidebar Gadget designer Andy over at the Intelligroup put together this super cool Vista Gadget to help you obsessively track the latest posts on Kotaku.
If you have Vista, and one day you will, you can install this to run on your sidebar. Sweet huh?
That was a rhetorical question btw. :)

How about a widget?
Too bad it looks like shit! Seriously, the Kotaku green and purple are not the prettiest colors you've ever seen in a Vista sidebar. Torley would like it though.
Awesome! I just installed it. :P
I second that. Wanting a widget.
DAM that is ULGY!
I will see what I can do about making a widegt that works on both XP and vista if anybody wants it?
Seriously, beyond this is there any reason to get Vista?
Since this is a gaming site I will mention the few games coming out that require windows vista/dx10 ;)
But no, not really. We'll all have to ASSIMILATE soon.
3D windows.
I don't really care about the sidebar, or vista. But I like the wallpaper.
From previews of Vista thus far, the greatest benefit I can see in upgrading to the new OS: a new set of pretty wallpapers.
I agree with t0yrobo, I like the wallpaper.
ahhh dont want to nag but can you tell him to make one that shows the new article post rss style ?
Vista, schista. It's all pretty and no purpose.
I just can't justify replacing most of my apps to be vista-compliant (mein fuhrer).
poop.
Yeah that wallpaper is nice...now if I just had a PC better then teh one I have Vista Ultimate here I come!
I've had that sidebar turned off ever since I had Vista put on this machine. Now I have a reason to bring it back.
Brian, in the land of Kotaku, rhetorical questions do not exist, which is why it's so damn entertaining
Gosh, look at that - a Mac OS X widget from 2005. Welcome to the present, guys.
Does anyone know if Vista actually runs on a normal computer? I tried the beta and it chugged, it chugged hard.
Now getting a Kotaku widget for the iPhone..That's what I would like to see (even though I won't go near one until the second generation.) :)
"Vista Ultimate here I come!"
Does anyone know what the benefits of running Vista Ultimate are? Other than DX10 which is in all versions of Vista, what does the ultimate version bring to the table? Other than double the price tag and a new unstable OS.
This just smells like "We know many gamers are early adopters and we know that they like to pay lots of money to have the "best". Lets pretend we have something great and make them pay tons for it.. hahaha"
I'll download this and try it out, I've been running the RTM version of Vista for about 2 months.
Spare_Change: What programs would you have to replace? Most programs that work for XP will work on Vista and if not you can always try running it in compatibility mode for XP SP2. Compatibility mode actually stretches all the way back to Windows 95.
Ultimate is a combination of the features in Vista Home and Vista Business, plus BitLocker (drive encryption). It also has Ultimate Extras, three of those have been announced so far for released on the 30th. The extras are dreamscene (basically using a movie file as a wallpaper), a couple new tools for BitLocker, and a texas hold'em poker game.
Just to comment on the unstable bit, the OS has only crashed on me once (because of bad RAM, so not Vista's fault), and frozen a couple times (Last.FM doesn't seem to work right with Vista currently, once it was uninstalled the freezing problem went away).
The wallpaper looks good, I dont want a side bar though.
I've had that widget for OSX for a good six months now.
In fact, all the new features in vista are so outrightly theived from OSX that vista is actually a good self-test for those considering a switch to mac. Except for the constant crashing of course.
Just because you got a free copy of Vista from Mr. Gates doesn't mean that were are all gonna spend cash out of our own pockets to buy that crap.
BTW, love how the atomic green and pink fit perfectly with Vista's dark colour scheme. Genius.
How about Google Desktop? anyone know how to make one for that?
Best. Gadget. EVAR.
Now I just have to wait for MS to sent me Vista Ultimate (in case anyone's wondering, I work in retail and I qualified for a discount at Intel -got a Core 2 Duo E6300, Intel DG965WH mobo, and Vista Ultimate all for $220 w00t)!
Hrm, I'm going to have to look into what discounts I can get through work then, I'd like a new processor :)
Hi guys, thanks for the feedback.
Let me explain the design... I'm pretty new to kotaku.com (in fact I'd never been here until Brian asked me about a sidebar gadget!). I wanted the gadget to fit the design of the site. I wasn't too happy with it either (especially the font color), but seeing how I did the design in just an hour, I hope I can be excused :)
If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to use the contact page on the Intelligroup site. If anyone wants to submit a better design, I'll add a setting to "choose the skin" or whatever.
My two cents on Vista: My RC2 install is equally as stable as XP and the extra features do make it worth the upgrade. I like it and probably won't go back to XP :)
Andy
ps Spence10: I created this gadget yesterday, from scratch. I don't think you could have been using it on a Mac for 6 months :)
Been running Vista Business RTM for a while and I turned the Sidebar off the first day. It takes up too much real estate and that is with dual 19" monitors.
[sarcasm] hmm, surprising anti MS/vista comments. [/sarcasm]
Can you get him to add an option to hide the date and time and change the title color to black and not pink?
Too hard to read atm.
Oh, might I add that anyone saying Vista is nothing more than bells and whistles is completely and utterly ignorant.
I attended a Vista training program and there are SO many features and aspects under Vista's "pretty" hood, compared to XP. Needless to say I am impressed - this coming from a former naysayer.
So kids, do your homework before slamming something you know nothing about. Thanks.
PS- Face it, you'll have to eventually upgrade to play DX10 games, so you may as well get used to it.
starwarsfreak, didn't you know... before sony bashing was cool, the internet was about the elitist mac losers, who are just ashamed to only be able to use their mac for internet and drawing, would bash the other 85% of the market for being "tools" and mock the OS that actually... you know... does more...
You can take your widgets and sove them in your non-gaming heaven.
I am getting windows vista free :) I'm going to download it.
That sidebar isn't even originally an OSX move, everyone I knew in college who used UNIX had a desktop that looked exactly the freaking same as that pic.
Go M$oft! You created a desktop feature that even a much older OS has had for years!
