Mass Effect '1UP Exclusive Preview' [gamevideos]

HOTNESS!!!
Yes!!!
Can't wait for it.
It looks like it will be a top game however theres just something about it which doesn't appeal to me and not sure what it is, i feel the same about bioshock as well
This game just keeps looking better and better with every drop of content they release.
I don't care what anyone says. Oblivion's character creation sucked hard. This, however, looks pretty convincing.
This game is for people who couldn't attend the ComicCon.
I had to stop watching once the 1UP editors started talking.
"Looks better than Home or Oblivion characters"
That doesn't even get to the level of how much of an improvement this is compared to other character editors.
@jip100:
Do you own an Xbox360? Cause then maybe you just don't want to spend $350 to play them. If you can't think of any other reason than I can't either, truthfully.
Great. It broke. Thanks, intertards!
"Whatever you want...armor, weapons, mods"
Uh Oh, dont let homeland security hear that
@Barbara:
I attended and still fail to get that reference.
Anyways, absolutely gorgeous and cannot wait to own it.
I have a SINGLE issue with the game. The facial animation shows, to me at least, absolutely no emotion. In stark contrast to many games out there. Otherwise, the game sells me a 360.
im so close to buying a 360 just for this game, but i already have a PS3 and i dont wanna own two systems.
@jip100
Could it feel off because you don't own a 360 and you think everything playstation is gods gift to the world?
I didnt like any of bioware previous works, but i played them anyway. I feel the same thing will happend with this game.
I will play it ( in a friend house or the day it hit the pc) and i will continue my life unaffected.
It looks great :P thats true
Graphical style is spookily like P.N.0.3 in some parts. Looks nearly identical (+ next gen graphics) in some parts.
@Xiedo: @Bluespruce:
The fact i own a 360 shows how little you know, personally i just can't convince myself to buy these.
Just because im not convinced by a major title doesn't make me a fanboy you know.
my gamertag is resistance100 if you don't believe me.
Gears of War sold the 360 for me along with halo3 and crackdown. Also alan wake looks great. Mass effect and bioshock just don't cut it for me
@Xiedo: Also its £279.99 over here
2:40 in, John Davison "...character creation is so much better than anything we've seen...like [PSN] Home..."
sure is. they're also entirely different applications. 10/10, Sherlock. :D
@Maleficence: are you serious? i think the facial animations are extremely well done, and they are done for every dialog-scene. I haven't encountered any game that has superior facial animations outside of cutscenes
@jip100:
I used to feel the same way about BioShock. I didn't think it looked all that great, and that it would be a disappointment once released. I'm starting to reconsider it after the two great reviews that came out. If this game can keep up the pace with more reviews then it's a buy for me.
erm, how many DVDs is this game being released on? considering the scope and scale of the game universe surely it would need +72 discs at least!
@as702ecs:
Wow. What a witty and thoughtful quip.
You must feel smart being able to underscore the most obvious, banally semantic point you could possibly make.
Regardless of system, application, or intended use, a character generator is a character generator. Comparing one from a game on the 360 to the character gen system for the entire PS3 online infrastructure isn't merely valid; it's completely necessary and as far as gaming goes, the very purpose of the press.
Maybe if there is some merit to Davison's comments, Sony will rachet up their Home offering to better serve you, the gamer.
Heaven forbid that ever happens!
Now I have to buy it.
@stranger: well, it's my opinion. if you feel so intent on hurling satirical digs at users whom (last i checked) are entitled to freely express their viewpoint then good for you.
@NOKS415:
My exact thoughts.
I have the money, 360 is a great console, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Mass effect will come to computers right?!... It has to! :(
Hhhmm... don't really care for this title personally, but it could be the 360 title for Europe. The character generation isn't more innovative than anything else, but it does use a different art design. Perhaps there is more to than was in the footage. I just wonder how bad the lip syncing blended with facial expression will be. It's a good thing PCs don't talk. ^^
@Citan359, NOKS415: I doubt you'd be disappointed if you just broke down and bought one. I bought all three in the same week so that my next-gen impressions would be less flavored by my previous gen experiences.
Granted, the 360 has been out for longer, but overall... sans RRoD reports though I've not gotten one myself (which may, under the new HDMI machines, be a thing of the past... maybe...), I've been quite impressed with the machine overall. Considering how much MicroSoft is getting right this generation as opposed to last, it's actually making more sense to own all three.
The Wii is a major niche console in that it's got broad, mass market appeal.
But the PS3 and 360 are going to be battlegrounds for exclusive IP... and I'm absolutely loving the exclusive IPs on both so far.
Just give in and be a consumer whore. You only live once and you can't take it with you.
@TheHun:
They're done for every scene because they're run by the vocal tracks themselves, not animators.
Well I am excited about this IF I can play as a female character. I previously thought that would not be possible but looking online now maybe it will be. Whether I play this depends 100% on that.
@jip100: I'm kinda feeling that about Bioshock tho I preordered it. I also preordered Mass Effect and I'm sure as hell ain't feeling that for this. I'm REALLY looking forward to Mass Effect. Bioshock mostly because of the "hype" plus the pedigree (never played System Shock 2 but I've been told by multiple people of its awesomeness).
Alan Wake looks really good to me too, but I'll wait for reviews to come out before I decide to buy. :)
maybe I missed a video, but is that the first time we've seen a Krogan in game? Looked great.
But it's still just a male character, right?
If so: Sounds pretty freaking limiting to me.
You guys ranting against the Oblivion character creation and hailing this thing need to realize that the range offered by Oblivion totally crushes what this (admittedly sweet) system offers, including facial expression for freaking cat and lizard people. The end results in Oblivion were awkward, but their ambition smashes this to little tiny bits.
If not: Can't wait to see the rest of the options
@lilibat: Bioware confirmed female characters are in.
It's sad that EVERYTIME i see this game, it somehow looks better and better. I find that with most games, they hit a point, where you just kinda lose interest in news about them (assassin's creed for example).
But with this game, they're always showing off something new.
Also, i can't wait to see what this game looks like in person. Cause from all the vids and trailers, it's visuals look SICK!! And does anyone else get excited thinking that if they were to make a new KOTOR, how awesome it would be?
@Desfunk:
Didn't KOTOR II and III come and go? They weren't made by Bioware though. So as far as I'm concerned, Mass Effect is the next true KOTOR.
This game looks really good. Too bad I simply can't stand science-fiction. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably be very excited about this game.
Halo 3 is nice, but Mass Effect is the real reason I'm buying a 360.
This game just looks amazing, even photo-realistic at times. I do wonder at times though why it got the M rating. Aside from the nudity, there doesn't seem to be anything too "adult" in it, but that's just me. Can't wait for this to come out.
*drool*
Why the shaky cam behind a shelf of random toys?
Why?!?
Does the fact that I looked at all the text with the character creation make me weird...
I didn't want this game until I saw this video. Damnit, if this keeps on going I'm going to go bankrupt.
Wow, lots of people getting grumpy. All i have to say is who was holding that damn camera in the video? You're not artsy pal, you're some dude/dudette who can't fricken use a camera is what you are.
@Xiedo:
There was no KotOR 3. There was a 2, though.
As for this video...I like the character interaction system, and if it were in more games it would probably redefine the RPG genre, but again...the combat just seems painfully uninteresting with the lack of melee and the focus on "shoot them before they swarm you".
For those of us who don't like shooters...what is our incentive to play it? The character creation and stat screens keep basically confirming there is no melee or close-range combat in the game, which just kills it.
The setting reminds me of the works of Iain M. Banks, for you bibliophiles out there. Looks really good.
I still think persona 3 will be better, though.
@klausvalka: Glad I didn't post that comment. I was wondering the same thing as well.
@Archaotic: Why would there be melee in the future? There's hardly any melee in current hand-to-hand in modern combat, let alone hundreds of years in the future where people can manipulate gravity. It also could be something like in Stranglehold where if you get that close, you'll just hit them.
Looks awesome. Cant wait!
@TheHun: I'm not saying the animations are bad, certainly not, they're very good. But they simply don't convey emotion at all to me, they never look like they're scared, or happy, they look like robots. Very very nice and highly detailed robots, but robots all the same.
@jihadjoe343:
Well, I'd rather have melee combat over dozens of guns that I'm never going to use. It's not like KotOR didn't have beam sabers or vibroblades.
All I'm saying is that it really sucks that BioWare is turning what could be an awesome RPG into a mediocre shooter by sealing off the option to fight up close. Pistol-whips don't cut it. If I can't get a vibroblade, I should at least get the ability to beat the hell out of people with my bare hands, since I'm just not interested in "OMGZ SNIPERZ".
@Xiedo:
Yes, they confirmed that...many, many months ago. I'm surprised at how much basic information about this game is still unkown by so many. It's almost criminal.
Even on the Mass Effect site itself there are count
