Atari Founder's Restaurant Opening Next Week!

Got plans for October 16th? Atari and Chuck E. Cheese founder Nolan Bushnell is opening his first uWink video game diner in Woodland Hills, California. Here's how it works: Customers order food or drinks via touch-screens built into their tables. The computers even make cocktail recommendations based on a personality quiz. And customers can pay to play casual video games while they eat or wait for their food. Sound kinda cool, but totally missing an animatronic band.

  • So they use an electronic menu? Wow, that is so...10 years ago Japanese yaki-niku restaurant. And you can paly games too! How novel! Maybe they could even add the ability to change the music in the jukebox! Wave of the future!

  • Their manu seems to be as non threatening as they claim their games to be. It looks they went for the entire from the freezer to your plate round up. Do we still carry the image that we do nothing but eat burgers and pizza while playing games? Although some "Alert the Media Hot Wings" do sound good right about now...

  • Full-featured Chuck E. Cheese restaurants (meaning the ones that had the stage with the animatronic creatures above/arcade games/stuff to ride/guy in giant Chuck E. Cheese costume walking around/plastic ball pits to jump in) were probably my favorite place to go as a kid. And those on-stage robots were so delightfully creepy when the show wasn't going on...everything was dark, but occasionally a bear wearing a tuxedo or rat wearing a fedora would suddenly snap to life, look around, and then close its eyes again.

  • And I was crushed when they changed it to a Showbiz Pizza. Fortunately, within a year or two it was back to being a Chuck E. Cheese. Although by then I was like...10 years old or something.

  • There are still Chuck E. Cheese restaurants if you want to go to one.

In Arlington, TX - 2216 S. Fielder Rd.
In Ft. Worth, TX - 4860 SW Loop 820

Those are the only two close enough that I would go to though. There are a lot of them all over.

  • We have Chuck E. Cheeses all over Southern California, too. I am looking forward to trying out uWink even though it will be a bit of a drive (over an hour) to get there. I like the concept which isn't really captured anywhere else.

  • Drink recommendations on personality quiz questions.

    1. Are you above 18?
    Recommend tap beer
    2. How many alcoholic drinks have you had ?
    Recommend coffee
    3. Have you ever had a DUI issued against you?
    Recommend club soda

  • KaneRobot: WHY DO I REMEMBER THAT? How eerie.

  • Did you know, denki, that there is a world outside of Japan? Fact!

Also - what the hell is Mario doing hiding behind the animatronic band? This is Bushnell's gig, not Miyamoto's!

  • I remember that band at Chuckie Cheese's, man thos things scared the crap out of me.

  • Wasn't Nolan Bushnell the founder of Chuck E Cheese?
