1UP is reporting that, at Gamesfest 2007, unspecified sources have revealed that Live Arcade support will be added to Games For Windows Live developer tools before the end of the year. No word from 1UP or Microsoft on whether this will mean current Xbox Live Arcade titles will make their way to PCs running various Windows OS flavors, but it seems like a safe bet. Yet another platform on which to play Lumines? Yes, please and thank you.

if you own a game on 360, can you play off your computer? that'd be nice
#1 w00t! Why haven't they posted about the early BioShock Toys R Us release yet!!!??? Important stuff!
Sounds good, but...does this hurt 360 at all? Im asking here, cause i dont know. Again, i think Live Arcade is one of the great unsung features of the system.
Best news I've heard all week.
I thought that was MSN Games?
FINALLY I CAN PLAY ALIEN HOMINID ON MY COMPUTER!!!
I want a reason to keep my 360 & PC, but MS keeps giving me a reason to keep my PC and trade in my 360 for a PS3!
Good exclusive games is what decides my console choice and If I can already play 360 games on my PC.. then why in the hell would I waste my one hdmi port on the 360?
@hass: It would be nice... but I wouldn't bet money on it happening that way.
@KEELr:
I am gonna have to agree... seems like some exclusives I'm gonna get for the 360 but I've been converted back to PC gaming.
Guys, Bioshock on sale @ Toy's R Us... Copy in hand!
@Killtacular: really? already?!
@Killtacular: Take a picture, e-mail tips at kotaku dot com
And there goes the only reason I had left to buy a 360. Good to know that I can save myself $400.
*cue cries from avid PC gamers who don't want LIVE on the PC, or that they have to pay for it...*
@jasu: you mightve missed the bioshock hooplah, me thinks.
@jasu: "And there goes the only reason I had left to buy a 360. Good to know that I can save myself $400." ...and spend $2000 to run games like Bioshock at full speed on a PC... Kudos to you sir! Kudos to you...
Well, after looking around the Gamespot/Gamefaqs forume, Toys R Us indeed is already selling Bioshock (damnit, why don't I have a Toys R Us near me...). They also link to this forum post on Neogaf, just scroll down a bit and you can see pics of some people's cases/discs.
And also, that's not an Elite with Madden and Bioshock bundled in (that's what I thought at first).
[www.neogaf.com]
It (Bioshock) comes in a holo-slip case too. I'm sure West Coast can still get one... seems to be company wide. The register doesn't seem to stop them from selling it.
eh. id rather play the 360 on my big screen than my shitty computer. but seriously why would you buy these games on a computer when you have something called the internet? you can get all these games free already why would pay for them.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that it isn't as easy as just saying "Live Arcade is coming to PC" and then immediately having the entire 360 XBLA catalogue available.
The 360's CPU is based generally on PowerPC architecture, so it would require some minor tweaks and a recompilation at the very least to get a single 360 game across to PC.
They could go the Apple route and make "universal" games henceforth with both binaries in the same package, or they could offer a Windows version and a 360 version separately (which may make sense given the games' 150MB limit).
But what I would guess at happening is that we'll have two separate ecosystems for LA games with a crossover for higher profile titles. It wouldn't surprise me if they fold some of MSN Games into the Windows LA as well.
Frankly, I hope this gets off the ground, and acts as yet another step in the Live Anywhere initiative. Of course, I seriously doubt that we will get a "buy once, play anywhere" situation, because there is money to be made on double-dipping. I wonder if the upcoming PC version of Uno will take advantage of this.
Realistically, what I hope to see is cross platform play, as well as PC prices for these games approaching those of the 360 versions, and not the $20 or so that many PC casual games cost these days.
Hopefully, we see Prince of Persia Classic on there. That'd be great!
About time they bring the Live Arcade platform to Windows. Games for Windows Live isn't really doing as good as Microsoft promised.
Catan & Carcassonne!
@jasu:
if live arcade was the only reason, then yeah. money saved.
i've yet to actually buy a live arcade game, but the TMNT demo was ridiculously tempting.
might get that tonight along with the MCR GH2 pack.
I just wanna play 'teenagers'.
@Killtacular: Proof or it didn't happen.
*sigh* I still want to know why I haven't downloaded the Bioshock demo yet. >:|
BIOSHOCK?!? TOYS R US?!? *head explodes*
Must...get up... before...noon...to investigate...tomorrow...
But on topic, this is cool. Catan online!
sweet, bringing xbox 360 / pc platform even closer. good stuff.
Why use Windows Live Arcade when you have such great offerings as Steam, or even better for casual gamers: Gametap.
@TheIrishNinja: @Scazza:
I have no interest in Bioshock, nor any FPS, which is one of the many reasons why I don't already own a 360. Sure, we know FPS games only account for 11%, but that 11% is what the system is focused on and where it's A-level games are at. Great for some, but it's just not my cup of tea.
@presto117: I'll admit it. I just want to play Cataan online with people.
@jasu: im not a huge fan of FPS's either, but that one looks exceptional is all.
Yay! Galaga!!! =D
=o ...now if only they'd bring out Gorf...
GORF!!! =D
Interesting... it's solid way of expanding the GFW name, especially under the -OH MY GOD NOT IN THE FACE- kind of competition that Steam of pushing.
@jasu: You're so open minded!
@Warren DeMontague:
Yeah. I'd love to see that. Hell I almost bought a 360 just for those games. Having those on Windows would save me a lot of hassle and cash.
@TheJordanator: Why thank you. :)
Pac-Man CE on Windows? YES PLEASE! I could finally play it without being constantly killed by the dodgy 360 d-pad.
Hm, although this does kinda dilute the 360's offering it will expand the user base - mean if people buy the game and it's valid on the other platform. I'd gladly be able to load the PC to play a game i've bought on my 360 when someone else is on it, or even cross-system play.
Maybe it'll wake people up to xbla on the 360 too.
If Microsoft can get people to pay for Galaga and other classic arcade titles on the PC, then they truly are the best salespeople in the world.
Anyone ever heard of MAME? :P
