Konami may be looking to bring the Climax-developed prequel Silent Hill Origins to a wider audience next year with a PlayStation 2 port of the game. Released for the PSP worldwide this quarter, it now appears that Konami will have a PS2 version of the game ready for March of 2008. A fact sheet for the port was passed on to us this morning, courtesy of one of our tipsters, indicating that Climax would be responsible for the second release of the handheld horror title.
The official Climax site does mention that the group is working on a second unannounced project for Konami, but reps for the publisher have not yet responded to our request for confirmation that Silent Hill Origins for the PlayStation 2 is the unnamed title. If true, I certainly hope that Climax is giving the game a bit of a visual upgrade for those who passed on the on-the-go frightfest.

That would be a nice Silent Hill bite for me ;)
hmm ... now I don't know whether to play it on the PSP or wait for the PS2 version. Grrr ... decisions.
Eh, I'd still get it for the PSP. I don't think PSP to PS2 ports work too well. To each his own I guess.
This game is really, really good. I never expected it to be one of the best in the series, but I have to say it is my second favorite of all time.
Ooh, this makes me happy. I want to play this game, but no one game alone is worth buying a game system, and Origins is the only PSP game I'm very interested.
Well lets hope this isn't as bad as 4.
would be gread, cause SH0 is in the moment the only game for that i would buy a PSP.
Silent Hill 0:Wii Edition anyone?
yes! I knew when people abandoned the PS2, that they were screwing up, this system has plenty of power in it. heck if and when no more games come out, I can turn it into a PC.
@rebelphoenix:
Shhhh.... We dare not speak it's name.
@rebelphoenix:
Is SH4 worth playing at least once?
@Robert Isbell:
I still love my PS2, it's a great system, and I'm ecstatic to hear that SH:O may be on it. Especially since I really don't want a PSP right now.
Don't miss SH:0 on PSP. Immersing yourself via headphones add so much to the experience of an already outstanding title.
@TheMysteriousStranger: At least once, yes.
~
@TheMysteriousStranger: Would say it's worth it. It can be very frustrating at times, but when I looked back at it's not that bad. And it is Silent Hill game, even as the beginning is weak.
I hope they port Chains of Olympus to PS2 also. Then I'll never have to think about getting a PSP.
@LeChuck:
They won't port Chains of Olympus, it's one of the few "must own" titles that Sony has complete control over. Frankly, I think Sony should simply disallow any 3rd party developer from porting a PSP game to the PS2...at least if they want the system's recent boost in sales and opinion to continue. Silent Hill Origins is one of the most technically impressive games on the system, and it's a shame that such a compelling argument for a more powerful handheld is no longer going to be an exclusive.
I'll look for it then. I have been hungry for another Silent Hill game.
@Nightshift_Nurse:
Bare in mind, I'm aware they ported Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror...but that was fully a year after the title was released on the PSP. It had done all the good it was likely to do for the system at that point. It's highly unlikely that Sony is going to see any point in dumping its PSP exclusives onto the PS2 a year from now.
...though hopefully they don't shoot themselves in the foot by making it a PS3 download.
I was going to buy a PSP for this and a couple other games, but now I don't really know if I should bother spending that much money on a handheld if I can at least get this game on the PS2.
@Darkest Daze: It's worth it, IMO. My wife loved mine so much had to get her one for herself. Now my household has 2 ds's and 2 psp's to go along with all our other consoles. Plus, the new PSP is really nice compared to the old one
Nice, I'm glad I skipped on Origins due to the overwhelming amount of games that just got dumped on us.
I would much rather play the game on a TV. And if the port ends up sucking, the PSP version should be cheap by then.
I didn't finish SH4, but I enjoyed it. It is definitely a different experience, at least in my opinion.
And for the holdouts, it is time to give the PSP another chance. It had an awful launch and a slow early period, but it is now a pretty solid system. No current gen system, handheld or console, has the solid library of the DS, but the PSP is still a great alternative and a complementary handheld.
A friend of mine will be happy at this news.
I loved SH4. Has yet to be a game in the series I didn't like. That said, one less reason for me to get a PSP. Some day...but not today.
C'mon folks, 4 wasn't THAT bad. When I finished Persona 3 a couple of weeks ago, I thought that would be it for my PS2 games -- i was grong, and I'll buy this.
I hated 3... Until 4 showed up, now I dont mind 3... 4 SUCKED!
This is good news btw... :)
I agree - the first hour I played SH4 I was VERY worried. I stuck with it and it ended up being an amazing SH experience. I've yet to dislike a SH game at all.
It could be done. I mean PSP is pretty much a mini PS2.
SH4 was a decent game, it just didn't fit very well into the Silent Hill series. But it's certainly worth playing.
so.....explain to me why this isn't being ported to the PS3?
I mean it doesn't help your latest console if you keep porting new games to the old one....especially when your new one can't play the old one's games any more....
:/
cool cool. I plan on finishing origins this weekend. Will buy a PS2 version if it's a reasonable price (SH0 was 30$ CDN) and features extras.
After the swift kick to the nuts "The Room" turned out to be, this game will be welcomed with open arms.....but I'll be wearing a cup just in case.
@Onizuka-GTO: "so.....explain to me why this isn't being ported to the PS3?"
Because it will sell more as PS2 game and they don't have to remake all the textures and models for HD resolution. Sony doesn't abandon their systems like MS did year before 360 was even on shelves, they milk them till the end. Playstations make nice profit in their later years, hardware is cheap, developers are familiar with the system, installbase is huge, etc. And backwards compatibility doesn't hurt either, even though PS3 pretty much fucked that part up.
@rebelphoenix: I dont think thats possible. Its like saying I hope this game isnt as bad as DAIKATANA.
Nothing can be as bad as DAIKATANA. ;D
------
In other news, Im rather sad about this considering I just bought the PSP version.
@etho: Get you a BC PS3 and problem solved, you can play this game on it... better hurry up, word is only a few 60 GB's left..
I actually got God of War 2 not to long ago to play on the PS3 (can you believe that?).. Pretty cool game.
@etho: SH4 was not supposed to be a SH game, it was called: "The Room". But konami they decided to change the script and adapted to a SH-ish related story. So, with that in mind i gave it a chance, wasn't bad at all.
Great news because... Well, I really don't want a PSP.
i love all the silent hill games but havent bought this yet,i very nearly did on thursday...but now its coming for PS2 i would rather have that version....do you think it would play on a 60 gig PS3?....and also,do you think Konami...would go about and release metal gear solid port ops on the PS2 as well?....i have the game but cant get into it with it being hand held
Who honestly didn't see this coming?
Wow, Climax BETTER add new things on the port... like making it LONGER. The game was good enough for the PSP because it was a HANDHELD game. Porting it to the PS2 with the exact same content from the PSP is definitely FAIL.
sounds like an excuse to resell it for a higher price to me.
but i got it for the psp so...
I currently have SH 2 GH, SH 3, and SH 4, so id get SH 0 for the ps2, I plan on getting SH 1 soon.
Does that means we'll get it on Wii someday?
I really wish they would redo SH1 with updated graphics, etc (ala RE for the gamecube).
@Moparopie: A remake of the first Silent Hill game would be good with a similar makeover to Resi0 on the Cube. They could do it in full 3D, use the remote for melee weapons and the torch, with the speaker acting as the radio.
How freaky would that be? :O
@Moparopie: As long as they dont change the voice actors il be happy
Well,the main reason for Konami to do this it´s because the low sales that the game already have in the PSP,that´s shame considering the great game that is,but the damning f..king piracy kills all the PSP´s sales even if the games are great,I really feel so bad for this,in the near future the software companies would stop making games for the system,If you have a PSP please buy the original games,for our own good.
I´ll already believe that Silent Hill 2 is the best of all,so depressing history...
@ot79:
you still blame piracy for low sales? if anything, the DS games piracy is a lot more rampant than PSP
yet it has done nothing to affect DS games sales.
@ diablofreak: please don't be so silly and blind about this fact,you can't compare the cheapest way to piracy the PSP,you only need a memory stick and download the roms,therefore,the DS only sell very well pokemons and brain trainings,so please don't try to be so Nintentroll here.
Man, I've played SH, SH3: Paradise Lost and SH4: The Room and I'm planning to get my SH quickly...Last week I watched an video about SH: Origins and I LOVED (literaly) the battle system and the music.
Well, I guess Konami does NOT have a choice of releasing this new SH only for the PSP system...The PS2 fans would cry..
Anyway I'm eating my fingers and waiting for this SH..AND PLEASE, DON'T LET THIS GAME BE WORSE THAN SILENT HILL 4, KONAMI!
Oh, and I'm sorry for the weird writting...I'm from Brazil, South America...
Good Bye!
For me, this game MUST recover the health of the SH series after the BAD, VERY BAD, REALLY BAD Silent Hill 4: The Room...
