Just in case you forgot all about it. Or what it looked like. These are actually quite useful, in that they're all gameplay shots, all show some kind of menu/control system and show off the game's four core elements: romancin', flying bug combat, trough-fishing and monkey dancing.

I'm having so much fun playing these screen shots!
atleast it's not duke nukem forever =\
I really can't get into this game anymore. I've been waiting so long i've lost most interest. Heh ADHD is a bitch. Screen shots look good though.
Am I the only one who was never hyped about this title? I just dont understand what could possibly be so entertaining about this.
Has anyone from Kotaku contacted EA about the rumor that the first stage of Spore is being developed for portables/cell phones?
Oh, Spore: You are the reason I got a new computer. Well, that is to say, ordered a new computer on July 24 from Gateway and it still has yet to come in. Damn you Gateway. Damn you.
Now, can they make a game out of it?
Will has never done me wrong yet, but this thing is so ambitious I can't help but worry.
I wish eyes were optional and you could be more "gooey" in the microbe stage.
@waterhand: You ordered a new computer for Spore? By the time it actually comes out, you're going to need another new computer...
Still not seeing why this game is so hyped.
The game is hyped because it's so damn ambitious. This talk of procedurally generated content is a huge step towards real-world modeling. If spore flops then something else will surely pick up the baton because it's the way forward!
Well it's a nice concept. I was really stoked when I first saw this kinda stuff... y'know, about a year and a half ago. The interesting idea can only hold my interest for so long though. There are actual games that I know will come out on a good schedule. Meanwhile I'll probably wait for reviews before deciding on this game, primarily due to the huge lag between the start of the hype and the actual game coming out.
I just want to play with the creature creation, that's my money spent well.
Creating screenshots is undervaluated. Is a games developper art at himself. And IMHO sould be a olimpic sport. I give this stuff a 6/10. Because are gooood screenshots.
Now can we speak about a posible release? because, he!, I am a fan of screenshots, but I like games even more than screenshots.
> the game's four core elements: romancin', flying bug combat, trough-fishing and monkey dancing.
Aren't these all euphemisms for the same thing?
Yawn. Wake me when there's a ship date.
Looks amusingly goofy. Can't wait to try it.
Wasnt this confirmed already for March 15/08?
If not, please tell me because I want this game SO bad!
I can't wait to play this game in 20 years!
Nice to see Spore finally looking like a game and not just a glorified tech demo.
I am intrigued by the all the proposed gameplay innovations and broad ideas in spore...
...but the overall look just absolutely kills me. "Yay! I made a phallus-looking creature with purple stripes and red polka dots who eats with his butt and walks on his hands! Evolution is kewl!"
I dont expect uber-realism, nor really want it most of the time, but can't more developers try a more, say, classy/minimalistic look?
I was excited about Spore when I first heard about it, because who doesn't want to create their own creature?
But all the creatures I've seen so far have been so weird looking that I've kinda lost interest in it. I wanted to do things like create tigers with huge spikes coming out of their backs and armor plating, not things that look like they belong in a Dr. Seuss novel.
@Tei: Please tell me that English is not your first language.
Is anyone else here disappointed in the artistic design? It looks like some googly, neon versicolor vomit. Like the inspiration was stickers from a dollar store.
@kuzuboshii: Ok, I saw that you speak Spanish first. Yes, I agree, they are good screenshots. The only mistake Will made with this game was announcing it too early.
People expected way too much from this game (based mainly on the creators' self-hype). It's just a game, it has a certain set of rules coming from the designer's imagination, and it's not going to actually simulate evolution. Considering that the whole process of evolution is still poorly-understood, the idea that someone would make it all work on a Playstation was always silly.
From [en.wikipedia.org]): "The games and films with which Wright associated the various phases are:
1. Pac-Man for the cellular phase
2. Diablo for the creature phase
3. Populous for the tribal phase
4. SimCity, Risk, and Civilization for the civilization phase
5. SimEarth, Destroy All Humans!, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and 2001: A Space Odyssey for the space phase, with elements of sandbox gameplay."
Hardly revolutionary.
@Ratatouille:
So why can't you create tigers? Just because the editor CAN create weird/impossible creatures doesn't mean you HAVE to as well. It doesn't help to show the flexibility of the creature creation if they show conservative designs. End-users obviously will make their own Star Wars, Smurfs, Hobbits, X-Men, etc. creations on their own, but Maxis probably doesn't want to advertise that fact given the trouble City of Heroes got into with Marvel. Remember, Will Wright said he wanted to see a game where Klingons fought Care Bears!
Bah, shut up naysayers! You know you're all gonna buy copies when this comes out.
Personally, I'm still excited for this game. It really isn't that long of a time, I think the game community just thinks that all because info for a game is released, it's going to come out relativitly soon.
I'm personally happy with how long it's taking, it's my belief game makers should be given as much time as they need. I just say wait, play games you know are coming out and when it comes out, get it. And if you're so worried about quality, read some reviews.
it can be spore tiem now plz?
SPORE.... I want you so badly....
@Snaphaunce: i agree. too colorful and cartoony. if i wanted graphics for a five year old, i'd buy math rabbit. i really dig the older design they had going. not completely different than what it is now, but enough to keeo me interested...
@TrettOff: Do they still sing songs of the Great Tribble Hunt?
I'm gonna make a creature out of nothing but giant anime eyes, he's gonna be a warrior and I'm gonna call him winky (cause he's not very good at his job)
Oddly enough, despite it being "easy" to create somewhat viable-looking creatures, you'll still have to have some artistic talent to make something that looks like a real-world creature. Same with coloration. User selection will weed out a lot of the Lisa Frank inspired creations.
Now, on to the FPS/RPG/Shooter folks: Yeah, it's not your cup of tea. But think about the FPS that allows you to really truly make a character with procedural physics that really does fully model ragdoll and adjustable-gait-for-injury behaviors and procedural modeling. Or the RPG that is truly epic in scale without being just eighteen scale miles of the same terrain.
Hate the concept, fine, but Will and crew are pushing the limits on otherwise stagnant yet-another-use-for-the-Unreal-engine rut that many have been in.
This kinda reminds me of a bastardization of Black & White meets The Sims meets Creatures. Anyone else see that too?
