Game Politics just sent me a note to point out there is much free-speech depriving shenanigans going on down in sunny, wacky South Florida.
The Miami-Dade Court judge who is overseeing the civil complaint Jack Thompson filed claiming the Rockstar's upcoming game Bully is a public nuisance, as in a 2Live Crew public nuisance, is going to be checking the game out tomorrow in his chambers.
The clerk I spoke to (dug up after co-sleuthing with Dennis over on GP) told me that the judge did not order the review of the game, but that Take-Two offered to bring the game in on Thursday at 3 p.m. so he could see for himself what all of the noise is about.
A Rockstar employee is going to play the game in front of the judge and attorneys from both sides so the judge can decide if the game is offensive.
You want to know what's offensive? This whole proceeding. It's offensive that some judge in Florida would waste his time and the state's money to even consider practicing this particular form of prior restraint. It's offensive that anyone with any knowledge of law would bother examing a work of art to see if it is a "public nuisance."
My hand and I our disgusted with this whole circus.
