Here They Are, The PS3 and Wii Demo Stations

Yesterday, we posted a tip from an insider, known as "sirpilf" who provided a detailed description of the PLAYSTATION 3's demo kiosk. Sirpilf rang the rusty Kotaku mailbox again today with a pic of not just the PS3's demo, but also the Wii's. He had this to say:

I would like to apologize for misleading other gamers about the 45 degree angle, because I only got a glance at it before. It is actually sitting so the top is facing the player. But now I am making it up to everyone by including an actual picture of the PS3 kiosk AND the Wii kiosk. Both are listed in the book as late October to early November. And I would not expect any PS3/Wii displays till late September to early October.

No Wii displays until early October sure makes a November Wii release more plausible, huh?

  • Why is the Wii demostation using a 4:3 ratio tv? I know its won't support HD, but I swear I read it is 16:9 (if the tv supports it)... Why wouldn't the demo unit be using a widescreen display then?

  • what's up with the vents below the PS3? could the console be a dummy box with the actual hardware built-in to the display below it?

  • I heard that these are fake. They first appeared on the Official Nintendo Forums, and many believe them to be PS'd.

  • damn, the PS3 kiosk display is very uncomfortable.... don't you think? It looks like you are the one that needs to look up 45° degrees....

  • Image of doubtful doubtful at 09:17 AM on 08/31/06 *

The PS3 one is pretty nice. The included display on the right is a great marketing idea. Like the game you're playing? Don't go far, it's right here.

  • I worked in electronics retail for 7 years. I know nintendo in the past has only done changes to retail displays about 3-4 weeks out from a product launch. When they still had cartridges, it was a week out.

  • These look like first year industrial design student models. I seriously doubt they are real. There are too many unrefined PS artifacts in both and they look like they were scanned from a lousy Epson print with the bands across them.

  • Looks like a good photoshop job to me, nothing more. The reason the guy said he is sorry about the 45 degree angle of the PS3 is because he was initially lying and discovered these photos after the fact. Just another attention hungry fanboy.

  • They may not be fake, they look exactly like what you would expect from both companies.

However, if they are real, that is going to cause alot of people next problems on the ps3, and the Wii cords are really damn short.

  • The 4:3 ration on the Wii display really worries me.

  • Actually the PS3 one looks like it could be real. The Wii one doesn't even say Nintendo on it, and looks like shit. Could be fake.

  • jmro, look a little closer. The Wii display has the Nintendo logo on the base.

  • The Wii display has no apparent nunchuk attachment so I guess demos of Zelda and Metroid are out...

  • Dispite my personal hatred for one of them they are both extremely likable demo stations.

  • I can guaruntee you these arent fake. Like I said, I was wrong about the 45 degree angle because the first time I looked I didnt get a chance to look closer. I was at work, I didnt have time to examine it the first time.

And they did NOT show up on Nintendo's forums first, because I posted them on the Playstation forums first, then some user copied it and posted it on the Nintendo forums. He even used the exact same URL path so the one posted on Nsider had my username in it still.

  • both those units suck. Seriously they are ugly.
    Xbox 360 4 life!

  • The Wii chords don't look that short. Assuming they are connected to the station and the wiimote sitting on the rest there the chord were are looking at is dangling down and then back up. So probably 4-5' of chord?

Is it really that short when your only 2' from the screen?

the nunchuck I think would only complicate the whole playing and setup schematic. Since Nintendo is focusing on simplicity, why not show off only the remote? the Wii Sports will probably have the greatest market appeal anyways and it has a variety of games to play.

  • I can't wait to see people playing the Wii demo station. It going to be hilarious, you'll go to get a video game and you'll see some one flailing around the Wii. They'll have to make room around it, so people don't get wacked in the eye by an over eager Nintendo fan.

  • They are more likely to be made in 3d Studio Max, Maya or Lightwave than Photoshop ;) Nice lighting but its a bit odd they would both be shown in very similar angles, lighting conditions and design stylistics. Almost like they were modelled by the same person ...

  • ALL WILL LOOK UP TO ME!!!
    BECAUSE I AM PLAYSTATION 3!!!

Seriously, Sony must be expecting people to be looking at the system itself rather than the screen with that kiosk...

  • looking at that wii kiosk, it seems it will be pretty easy to steal the dvd game...

    Hdri renders Anyone?
