E3 Megalist Round-Up

kote307.gifIt was a fun three days. We got a chance to catch up with Shigeru Miyamoto, Jack Tretton and Peter Moore, eyeballed the Gears of War movie script, wore blue footies around Santa Monica, were treated like meat by Jade and rode a bull. We also managed to squeeze in time to play oodles of games and write up our various impressions, party with Queens of the Stone Age and catch ten press conferences.

And don't even get me started on all of the walks. Traversing Santa Monica, repeatedly, over the course of three days while running late for a meeting isn't exactly fun... me? I cheated and took a cab, but don't tell the rest of Kotaku.

The one thing we didn't do, or at least didn't do much of, was eat and sleep. Personally, I managed to squeeze in seven hours of sleep and one-and-a-half meals over the first two days. I was so exhausted by the end of day three that I skipped the day's only meal for a solid seven hours of sleep. And I believe that was about average.

Don't get me wrong. We love video games, so for us this was like something between nirvana and the seventh circle. Hit the jump for the really long list of our E3 coverage, most of it anyway—and thanks for keeping us company during the journey.

  • I'm sure I speak for the majority when I say that we appreciate your efforts over the past week in keeping us informed. Kotaku was the only source of news I used for E3 and I never felt like I was "missing" anything. I especially appreciated all the humor you wove into the coverage.

Oh, and back off of Jade. She's mine.

  • Well, apparently Baberg speaks for me, so, yeah. Everything he said.

Except for the Jade part. You can fucking keep her...

  • I assure you, it's us who needs to be thanking you. You have brought us up to the minute news and I appreciate it. I live in the Santa Monica/ LA area and I hate it. you guys traversed that noisy, crowded, bum filled city for us. What a bunch of nice guys. Keep up the great work until the next e3.

  • Nice round-up. Great coverage guys.

Loved the McWhertor/Crecente commentaries. Crecente with the play-by-play and McWhertor with the color is a great combo.

  • Awesome coverage guys. I was curious though to find out what you thought of the sequel to FEAR, but I didn't find it covered anywhere.

I loved the Justify your game series and all the Peter Moore videos. Those were awesome, especially the combination of the two.

  • were treated like meat by Jade

    Haha. Poor Brian.

Chicks dig a guy with a broken heart. :D

  • Looking at that list, that's a whole lotta writing!

  • What?
    No HEAVENLY SWORD??
    for shame!

  • YOu guys OWNED E3 as far as im concerned .. other bloggers did nothing but bitch and moan about traveling from hotel to hotel .. while you guys had everything good to go .. keep up the good work and i JUST might even pay to read this site .. maybe. .. ok not really .. but ill click on some ads.

  • Holy crap, that's a bumper crop of content. Thanks for summing it all up like this, I want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I really enjoy reading Kotaku and all the work you guys do is tremendously appreciated. If any of you are ever in Toronto look me up, I'll take you out for some beers.. ..seriously!

  • I almost forget. Your E3 coverage was second to none. You guys did a truly amazing job. Congrats!!!

  • Kotaku has done it again. I enjoyed last year's E3 coverage and I think this year was probably the best. With E3 being invitation only, Kotaku has managed to bring the entire event to home plus more. I definately love the interview videos, especially with Peter Moore and Shigeru Miyamoto. Nicely done.

Thank you very much Kotaku for bringing us E3 2007 and keeping it free. Looking forward to next year's coverage.

  • I think Nintendo's continuing heavy focus on market expansion is interesting and important, however, as a hardcore gamer I'm feeling neglected. How much Mario Galaxy was there in that conference? Almost none. DS Games coverage? Very little. Wii fit is cool, but it was the bulk of the conference and it's not a game. I'm sorry, but it's just not a game.
Sony's conference was the closest thing to a "proper" press conference.
Microsoft gambled big on the "only 2007 games" strategy and fell short. Without a doubt they have the best lineup of games for 2007 for the hardcore gamer, but if they'd shown us some new, exciting stuff that may not be out in 2007 like Sony and Nintendo did, they could have hit it out of the park.
If I was to just based on how exciting these conferences were for hard core gamers, I'd say Sony, with Nintendo and Microsoft tied in last place. If I was to vote on 2007 game lineup I'd say Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo.
