This Day in Gaming, November 6th

1997: Id announces a contest to win a 3D graphics card. Gamers have to go to their site, answer five questions, and they are entered in a weekly drawing. Runner ups get baseball caps. As if anyone who will win a Quake contest of any kind ever played baseball. Oh, you did? Minor leagues, huh? Well that's great. I take back my comment then. You are right, I was mistaken, and it is promoting a stereotype. Wait, you were lying about playing in the minors?? That's cool, I was totally lying, too. Don't even get me started on bowling.

1998: Nintendo announces that it's working on some sort of surprise fighting game called Super Smash Bros. Hate to break it to everyone, but most Nintendo games are 100% about fighting and adult content. Mario 1: mushroom people stomped until crushed. Mario 2: beakers full of drugs open "new dimensions", animals are savagely beaten with turnips. Mario 3: love child of man and raccoon roams earth, unaccepted by humanity. I could go on.
