This Day in Gaming, July 11th

2001: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is released by Columbia Pictures. The movie bombs at the box office, losing $123 million. It's the biggest domestic box office loss in the history of film and producing company Square Pictures goes bankrupt shortly thereafter. Sure, the movie was bad, but not THAT bad.

2001: Konami releases Ephemeral Fantasia for the PS2. Looks like another typical, anime-inspired RPG with another exceptionally horrid title. Any fans?

2002: Konami releases Genso Suikoden 3 for PS2 in Japan. It's a critically acclaimed RPG with rich, interwoven storylines. Sorry Ephemeral.

2003: Nintendo realizes that original game development costs money and instead re-releases Super Mario Bros. 3 as Super Mario Advance 4 for GBA. No one knew until now.
