Which Film Director Would Make A Great Game?

BOOM HEADSHOTThe New Gamer has an interesting piece up exploring their thoughts on what iconic film directors could make the shift from movies to videogames. Initially springing off the article with an excellent John Carpenter interview snippet, in which the term "videogame-like" is discussed as a movie reviewer insult, the article shifts focus to David Cronenberg's eXistenZ.

As The New Gamer's personal choice for director-cum-game maker, Cronenberg seems like one of the more appropriate and capable artists who could make the leap into gaming, if only for eXistenZ. But his work on fare like The Fly, A History of Violence and Videodrome show that Cronenberg has a good understanding of the themes that could make for great, impactful and horrific games.

Personally, I've always hoped for Michel Gondry to drop his distaste for the videogame medium and contribute. As the director of some of the more interesting films and music videos of the last decade, his surreal visuals and asynchronous storytelling could make for some fascinating non-traditional, looping gameplay.

Who would you like to see extend their filmmaking talents to the game medium?
