Research firm The Diffusion Group are claiming that only 30% of American console owners are aware their consoles play DVDs, and only 13% use them for that purpose. Which considering how many times you hear someone saying "OMG PS2 helped drive DVD sales" is a surprising statistic. Well, surprising in that it reminds you how many gamers out there don't frequent gaming message boards to complain/boast about things like a console's multimedia functionality.
